How to deal with this Question? “What is your current CTC?” or “Sorry we can’t give you more than 20% of your Current CTC?

These days HRs are asking the employees before sitting for an interview about their current ctc. I don’t want to reveal that to them and want to get paid according to the industry standards/ based on the market conditions. How to smoothly avoid that question and avoid getting underpaid?

Hello Grapeviners, What is with Indian recruiters wanting to know your CTC as the very first step of hiring? And when asked to share the ctc range in which the role falls, they refuse to share. So basically they just want to lowball candidates based on their current CTC and parity is a joke? Now If a recruiter denies sharing the range for the role and insists on knowing my CTC, I run! What are your thoughts?

I will go first - "Are you looking for a job change?" ( Hell no, I was just testing the naukri.com functionality) "What is your notice period?" And whatever your answer is, they will say, "We are looking for somebody who can join in 2 to 4 weeks" "How many jobs have you changed till date?" Whatever your answer is, they are not happy. If you haven't changed any, they think you don't have skills and just hanging on to the current job. "What is your expected CTC?" And whatever your answer is, they will ask, "Is it negotiable?" ..... (Reminds me of fish market) "

Recruiters always ask for your current compensation which is technically 'confidential' It's unfair for you to disclose your compensation without getting something in return. Let's CHANGE the tone of these conversations. I always ask for their budget before I disclose mine. Enough people do this and it'll become the norm and gives you a fighting chance to safeguard against lowballing. Objection handling: 1. "Our budget is flexible depending on the role and experience" - counter - what role are you considering me for? What's the range for that role? - if they still deny that's bullshit, all companies even startups have a ceiling they've at least thought of 2. "Our hikes are fixed at 20-30%" - run. Or if you care about the co. try talking about market standards and fair pay 3. If they're being unreasonable and not giving any info, you say your compensation is confidential / not comfortable sharing it at this stage Expected CTC - 1.2x Glassdoor/ambition box for business roles. Tech has levels.fyi. If they try to haggle at this stage itself, say you'd like to focus on the job fit and the opportunity and talk about compensation later which you believe would be open to discussion for the right candidate.

As I'm fresher and sometimes recruiter ask about your current CTC while applying for job. To isme kitna fill krna chahiye.. most of the time I fill zero.

Guys, need a quick descriptive help here. I applied to the position of senior profile for which in 1st round only they gave asked youe CTC expectation and at what CTC you will not go beyond. I shared my CTC and after 3 days I got an mail stating that my candidature got rejected because they will not be able to pay that CTC which is market standard that i asked. Now, i want to work in that company because profile is good and will help to draft my career and i am ready to decrease my CTC expectation also. My problem is how do I portray over mail and what pointers i should be adding to convey them to consider my profile for next round of interview as i am ready to work at lesser CTC (asked 3x of my curent CTC when lastly was discussed). Note: HR didn't asked my my current CTC . She directly asked expectations and at what CTC you will not go beyond. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

I have been applying for jobs, and every time I get a recruiter call, they ask me for my current СТС. Is it ok to tell them the current CTC at the very first call? Asking this because, in my current company, the budget was more but they gave me hike based on my previous CTC, because I had disclosed my current CTC before. Also, how do I tackle the question how much is my expected salary? Is it a good idea to tell them right away? Asking this because what if they have bigger budget but still end up paying how much I asked for. PS: I am new to all of this, please help me how to tackle these questions. Thank you.

Hello folks, When applying for roles, I have seen HRs asking for your current CTC and expectations. Some even ask to share Fixed+Variable components. I have read that it is illegal in some countries but nothing about India. Is it so common in India to share these details. And if I wish to not share, do they drop my candidature for screening round?
