 I was lucky to have people giving honest opinions. 
 It's not easy if you don't ask for it.

I have heard a lot of people suggesting stay on a technical side ,coding side if you don’t want to be laid off and always have a market value . But now I see almost everyone is getting laid off !! 
What are your suggestions?
Choose a career into coding or technical side only or go into other roles like technical functional ,product owner etc.

Engineers Irreplaceable ?

I got laid off in Jan. Took 4 months to land a job finally and joined a new company in May.
This new company seems to be silently laying off people now in the name of cost cutting and likely be trying to raise next round of funding although they previously raised previous round in Aug-2022.
Although right now it's more of they need me (my role, I'm the only person of this role) more than I need them, I'm 70% confident that I might not be impacted, but the 30% chance is keeping me sleepless. What do I do? Pretty traumatized from the first layoff.

I am hearing that some companies are laying off again? So is this a good time to switch or just stay wherever I am. That being said, I am not happy with my CTC and looking for a hike. And my current CTC is ~26 so how much hike can I expect if I do a switch?

Background,
I got laid off from an organisation and by god's grace I had a offer, which was not that good 10% decrement in salary, but me being a scared person joined the company.

Now 1 month after I realised I can do much better and market seems to open up.

What should I tell the HR in 2 scenarios.

1. I had already started Interviewing and haven't mentioned that I was layed off. What should I tell if I get selected? 

2. If a opportunity comes to start Interviewing for seperate company, should I mention about ty current company or no?

PS. The work in current organisation is not that good and it's a contractual role.

I got laid off today from a YC-backed startup (W23) citing a shift in product focus. Was part of the core team since Oct '21, initially as an intern then later converted to FTE in '22. I am an ML engineer working in a startup.

My current situation is horrible,I am constantly stressed about getting laid-off(My performance is good,I got promoted a month ago). I came to know that my company will probably lay people off this month,since they are unable to meet targets.

Now,I got rejected in four interviews.
There is a lot to learn and revise.
Stats and probability.
Machine learning algos.
Deep learning architectures(got rejected because I was unable to explain the architecture of a complex model in detail).
DSA(got rejected twice in this round).
SQL (got rejected once since I was unable to solve the SQL problem).
ML ops(some recruiters ask this as well).

With the added pressure of getting laid off,my whole life is turned upside down.I am unable to focus.
Every meeting or discussion I attend I feel like people are evaluating me.( This was not the case before).
I don't know what to do.
It would really help,if you guys share your interview experiences below.

I get to know this because I stalk their Google Calendar. It’s just weird. I’m not insecure or anything, I’ve been mostly rated well. It’s just odd.

Having recently been laid off, these last 2 months was a life changing experience and it taught me a lot of things than any degree or organisation ever did. Some pointers:

1. The people who make the decisions never get punished or are held responsible, its the folks like us who are the first to be pushed out of the door.
2. Its shocking to see the layoffs like firesale, affecting almost each and every company in the IT sector. But it makes you think, did some companies really need to layoff people or did they just do it to inflate their share price and Mcap. The upper management and LT are paid in crores to make the decisions and how could they unanimously fail in such a critical part of business planning.
3. Its all about profits. There's no humanity in any of these companies or rather the folks making the decisions and it doesn't matter if you have been with them for 2 years or 20. If I was responsible for 100 people under me and some of them lost jobs because of the decision I made, I would have stepped down myself and wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing I uprooted the dreams and hopes of not just employees but their families as well, many of whom are sole bread earners of the family. 
4. Treat your employer just as you would treat any brand outside when you go out to shop - treat it like a transaction and nothing else. This layoff also taught me to never compromise about your career and position within an organisation. If the organisation can layoff so many people without a second thought, there's nothing holding you back from joining the next organisation who is offering a better role/compensation. 
5. Be a risk taker. Thankfully I have always been this and this helped me rise quickly in my 6 year career but it's my suggestion to everyone and not just folks affected by layoffs - Never get comfortable in any organisation or any role.

I interned at a fintech unicorn as a PM Intern in my 3rd year and wasn't able to get a return offer because of hiring freeze. I joined a relatively stable MNC as an analyst thru campus but don't really enjoy the job and there's no intellectual stimulation as well. Doing work here feels like a chore whereas I really enjoyed working at the unicorn.

Recently i got laid off. Now that i start appearing for interviews should i make it explicit i was laid off and i am ready to join immediately. Or should I state something else as the reason of a break that might be there post 1st April ?

I am seeing a lot of layoff related posts everywhere from news articles to LinkedIn.. Is the Job market really that bad now? Or just the media is projecting that way? 

If it's really bad, which department you think is the most affected? How's layoffs specifically in India? Or is it layoffs in US but more hiring in India due to cost cutting? 

Are layoffs in technology/engineering dept as in for developers or some other departments? Your thoughts please..

It is really bad right now 
 1. Layoffs in many of the companies, irrespective of whether they're a startup or a big MnC. 
 2. Almost everyone I know of wants to switch, because of no/less appraisals from last 2 years 
 3. Bad work life balance - people thinks switching might help 
 4. Too much competition for any open position. Because of too much supply, companies are low-balling and people would accept the offer.  
  
 Recruiters ghosting is too common. Even if you've killed in your interviews and recruiters get someone who's ready to join on less pay, they'll simply ghost you.

Someone in ur team or someone u had good relationship (work wise) with gets laid off? Do u discontinue working as hard? Does ur team velocity decrease or increase as everyone does better for survival?
Just wanna hear from folks who have gone through this and does employer not see any affect in work? (E.g. Twitter case)
