Is remote job better than WFO

I was in a remote job from 2020, until last year where I was laid off in November. Then when I started searching for new companies my priority was to work on site, but again I got a remote job. My problem is living in the house 24*7 make it dull after sometimes and you forgot the line between personal life and work life. All I did was waking up in the bed and then opening laptop and vice versa in the night. Plus you don't have social interaction. Now I have become an introvert living in my own room and it takes enormous energy to go out and meet people. Is remote job really worth it wasting my 20's sitting in the home ? How are you folks coping up with this thing?

I can speak for this. From 2014 to 2020 I worked in office before covid. Remote work wasn't a norm. Despite being an introvert already, I made lot of friends and connections. I have over 600+ friends on FB whom I made just by going to office.

Fast forward to 2024 none of that social interaction mattered. Everyone moves on. WFO is you live in a bubble at office, no matter what anyone says. Atleast by WFH you get to save money (a lot) and avoid commute. You're literally sitting on a gold mine and you're complaining.

Work is just work, no matter that location. If you want the feeling of onsite work, stay in a metro city work from cafe shops. Make connections there instead.

True, grass is always greener on the other side and I know I'll start remembering these wfh days as soon as I will get an on-site opportunity but for health wise also, it's little difficult to maintain active lifestyle while wfh.

I honestly like working from home.
I was onboarded when the lockdown was happening so it's something that's been there from the start for me. But then when they started calling to office, I was really grumpy. Mostly because I won't get to save. I am a huge saving person and the fact that I won't be able to do it really hit me.
Anyways I still had to shift for the 2 day a week office and boy do I try to skip those as well lol.
I am fine with staying by myself and not interacting much with people but yes there are times when i feel like I may be missing out on some good times.
As much as I like work from home, i also prefer staying by myself.
For me it's more like working at home, away from home. So not staying with parents/fam, rather living on my own but still working from home.

I hate the face that we are being forced to come to office. It should be optional and not forceful. People have their own issues which companies should respect.

Yeah, same case. I also won’t have a problem staying away from home. Living with parents is both good but have some drawbacks as an adult. Planning to move back to Bangalore

Because you cannot be disciplined enough to create work life boundary in your home doesn't mean it's remote work's problem. You will face the same when you WFO and will also have to travel everyday and put up with office BS and come back home and open laptop again for work.

Inculcate discipline, work while work, play while play. One of the most important skills in life. WFH should just feel like WFO - travel.

Beside work other scenario are there also where you can’t do much while living in home in a small city

What exactly are you pointing to ?
Apart from hedonistic activities like roaming around and drinking all night, there is not a lot of difference between tier 1 and 3 cities of India.

You get similar Paradise Biryani and similar schools in Hyderabad and Kadapa.

I did wfo for some months and then got laid off and found a job where the current setup is wfh. What I'm missing is with wfo you can do a lot of things in the office interact with new folks and happening weekends. Of course most of the connections you make there will not be as meaningful as you have with your friends at home.

I am also in my early 20s sometimes it feels it's not the age for savings and I can spend some but not get much chance while working from home in tier 3 city.

If your association with work as your life in a day then you are likely to get bored, not able to segregate personal and professional time. It gets monotonous for sure but think of it this way - you save time commuting to and fro work, time you spend chit chat in office is cut down, etc.

As humans, we can't thrive without socializing but there are avenues if time is better utilized.

Pick up a habit or an activity - you are likely to meet new people and build your social circle beyond work. This brings in balance and time to spare overall that can be better utilized.

True, I need to get out of my home first as I live in a teir 3 city and there are not many things to do or to meet people

I personally feel that it is much better if we work from home because I don’t fucking care about work at all.
