I am working as IC in vmware in good profitable product. But after the recent townhall everyone is scared of getting slashed by broadcom next month. I am also stressed due to this, Perpared little bit, not getting enough calls and also feeling very underconfident

As you know VMware is being acquired by Broadcom and there's lot of uncertainty among employees on how things work there. Can you please share your experiences at Broadcom like perks, salary, work life balance, policies and anything which might be relevant?

They just started sending emails today morning for US/Canada. 

India/EU would be sent next week so we dont know the exact numbers yet.

Same information going on Blind, hundreds of Amazon employees laid off in the morning.

There are no fixed plans to settle somewhere in the West but there is just a curiosity of moving to different countries preferably in the West and landing a Software Engineer role. There are no plans for further studies and also don't want to and no need to pursue an MBA as I want to stay an engineer only (managing won't work out for me).
I do believe in learning by doing and also taking up courses in order to upskill. I don't have plans to settle abroad but yeah If I like it I might stay, else come back. I am a fresher atm and want to see how I can land a job in the West at an early age. Will decide what I want from life post this experience.

Any ideas?

If you are a software developer, which laptop do you use and why?

So this happened with me, HR called me if i am interested in Job, I said yes and provided my expected CTC and current CTC. based on that they took my Technical Round which i cleared comfortably. Now in Manager round, the manager said they cannot provide me with my expected CTC and will proceed with HR round only if i am open to negotiation. Whats the use of asking Expected CTC at start if you are not ready to support that salary. Why is manager concerned with salary discussion ? Are HR dead in IBM ?
