Agreed, although nothing wrong in it as long as they create value and the person who's paying is able to get value out of the session. Most sessions talk about such basic things that even ChatGpt can answer, so, I personally don't feel it's need, especially from people who are still in their diapers in tech. They wanna charge for it, they are free to do so and if people really feel the price is unjustified, then they shouldn't go for it. B. At the same time, I believe, mentorship(personal career guidance) needn't be based on money, but yes, it cannot be one way as well. The mentor should also get back something(the give and take needn't be equal). Somethings that you can help in exchange for mentorship - 1. You work on feedback given consistently and show up and prove you are the right candidate for that person to mentor 2. You can help them with something - expertise in another field, language, personal issues, taxes etc C. There are indeed genuine mentorships(it ain't 1:1), but people who talk about upskilling, side projects, impact in work, how to dominate in our role, etc. These are really valuable insights and if it takes money to be part of such community, I am ready to pay for it and I do.
