Karnataka to ask companies to display number of kannadigas. A joke???

I feel it's unreasonable to require MNCs to disclose the number of their employees who are Kannadigas and to prioritize Kannadigas for employment. Such policies seem to be attempting to introduce reservation concepts into sectors like IT, which have traditionally operated on merit-based principles. Implementing such policies may breed resentment against the state and its communities. These measures could also raise doubts among investors about the viability of investing in a state with such regulations. Growing up, Bangalore was renowned for its welcoming people, pleasant weather, and thriving IT sector. However, with increasing instances of hooliganism and policies like these, Bangalore risks losing its appeal, leaving only its pleasant weather. As for my own background, my father is Kannadiga and my mother is Tamilian. Should my company consider me a Kannadiga?

Does Bangalore even have good weather now? Sure it still is better than other parts of the country but frankly it's still worse than literally a couple of years ago. The pleasent-ness is all but gone and it's getting hot even in February. As for the actual issue, yeah well they are stupid. They'll enforce this but then IT lobby will make them revert it. Or when actually non-Kannadiga people will leave, they'll revert back. Congress playing the same game but using language instead of religion and then they expect the masses to save democracy against BJP. The government is f-ing around. They'll find out soon I hope...

@MomoMan I agree. Feb mein hitting low 30s temp already. I have loved Bengaluru weather but feels like hyderabad or Pune might be overall better now.

As a political party, it's a brilliant move. The native people of Bangalore go crazy when someone caters to their Kannadiga identity. Non-Kannadigas are not the voters. Sad part is that the people of Karnataka fail to understand that these kind of schemes are just an excuse to change the focus from broken roads, garbage and the long-awaited metro.

Well how much of your life have you spent in Bangalore or Karnataka? Asking this because if you were actually from here, you would perhaps know the answer to your last question. Anyway, I also wouldn't allow reservation in skilled labour. But for suptport staff, this is a much needed move. If they do it right & if it's not just another election gimmick. Our city is witnessing Kannada people being wiped out of here. It's good if they are protected a little bit.

There is an argument that many developed countries use language tests to allow immigration to their country, including USA, UK, Germany etc. Logically, Indian states expecting minimum language learning for leveraging opportunities should be okay, right? PS: I do not endorse violence or political rhetoric in the name of language.

why don't you understand that Bangalore has become one of the worse cities to live in because of all the outsiders and the companies. Locals just want to protect their cities, i don't see any issue with that. Companies will just have to relocate to other cities which is a welcome move.
