Kudos to WhatsApp for protecting user privacy🙌

User privacy is a joke here. Why on Earth you want to trace all the personal chats of the users? It’s a violation of fundamental rights of the users. Well done by WhatsApp! Read the full article: http://toi.in/Dp70hY49

It feels so funny when I see that Zuck is actually trying to protect privacy😂

There's a difference between a court asking it and whatever you think

Apparently whatsapp seems to project itself such a nice guy, protector of the universe.

Meanwhile, when you try to share online links of products in chats or words around it, and start seeing ads on Meta. 🥲

However that still doesn’t give government the right to get access of users chat history!

Agree, but in this case It's not the govt, it's the court.

The only remotely possible privacy thing they may have done is having disappearing messages.
But I am still not sure about that since I have worked with Backend enough to realise what soft deletes are when it comes to data records.

You mean soft deleted msg/content is still stored? Also what is a soft delete?

SnoozyJellybean
SnoozyJellybean

Yes, basically it's a method where the record is not deleted but just a field 'deleted_at' added to the record to denote the record is deleted as per the user but the record stays in the table.

It's a publicity stunt. If you read the news articles, they're saying it's prohibitively expensive for them to do it because it'll require a lot of storage. Nowhere do they say it's to protect users' privacy. That's only given as headlines

The government asking for this shows how controlling and insecure they are. And of course, the media won't touch this story.

This is exactly what most people fail to understand!

sure they'll leave their biggest market for our privacy... sure

This is double standard of whatsapp. For US they have submitted the private key and for India they are playing this drama

Exactly! Only one allowed to read whatsapp messages is Meta

Zuckerberg is class A moron. He says he is fighting for user privacy in India, but on the other hand he has nothing to say about this: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/house-votes-renew-fisa-spying-tool-earlier-republican-revolt-rcna147557

Seems like double standards to me

Booked flights, gave my official number for booking However, Received booking confirmation on WhatsApp on the personal number (only close family and friends have it)?!

How are they accessing that? And why?!
