I am wondering when the things will get normalise and hiring frequency will become normal as most of the students even from IITs and other premium institutes are finding it hard to bag jobs unlike in past years , what should I do i am planning to puruse my MIM from abroad in next two years and targeting hec Paris LBS OR INSEAD FRANCE OR ESSEC ,will I face any difficulties in getting product/consulting roles in Europe middle East if graduating from these institutes keeping in mind the current job market, although no one can predict what will happen in next two years but I just want a rough estimation...

I was talking with one of my friend regarding his job switch plans. He's trying since 4 months and applied to hundred's of opportunities. Of all those, only a handful he got some replies and of them just two interview schedule had happened. One of the interview he cleared and even then the company put him on hold for 2 weeks and later the company moved ahead with some other candidate(maybe the other candidate was asking for less pay).

How is the job market in US

It’s disheartening to see 1000s of people being laid off in recent times. Most of them have a family to feed and EMIs / bills to pay.

Today it’s them and tomorrow it could be Me and You as well. 

And it’s pretty much clear that these new age companies are not empathetic and would go to any extent to meet their goals.

Why isn’t any employee doing anything about these atrocities? 

Following are the few ways to send out a strong message to these employers for abusing / blackmailing / and forcing resignations and PIPs (share more in comments)

1. Boycott their products / Services - make a noise about it on social media.

2. Stop subscribing to their IPOs or start dumping their stocks.

3. Uninstall their apps.

Hi, fresher here and just browsing linkedin and opportunities that are available in the market. 
I have recently come across this trend by all the companies almost of having some unreal expectations for the jobs that they have to post. 
These are some entry level roles and demand experience? How is that supposed to work??
Idk if im wrong here but the example im sharing is a product analyst role demanding 7 years of experience? Am I mistaken to see this as absurdity?
Seen this with all the product roles as well, ns about other entry level jobs. 

Please let me know if I’m missing any information that I need to know or if there is a reason behind such demands.

Recently, I interviewed a senior individual about their job hunting experience after 8 months, 50+ interviews, and interactions with 10+ companies. What they shared is quite eye-opening and worth sharing with my fellow Grapeviners to stay informed about the current market trends.

There's a concerning trend of false interviews or what some might call "candidate fishing." Companies seem dissatisfied with many candidates they encounter initially, leading to rejections for trivial reasons or minor interview slip-ups. This indicates an oversupply of candidates in the market.

Most companies have multiple candidates lined up for each job role, creating unnecessary backups. Consequently, last-minute job offer declines are not uncommon, even after successfully navigating through all interview rounds.

The interview process itself can be lengthy, ranging from one to two months, with interviews scheduled during weekends, late nights, and early mornings becoming more common.

Some common reasons for rejection include:

1. Diversity hiring concerns
2. Expectations of being a master of everything
3. Common interview formats with overwhelming ratios like 2:1, 3:1, or 4:1, putting candidates on the spot
4. Companies adopting a "Why should we not hire you?" mindset
5. Scrutiny over resume details, such as short job stints, despite ongoing industry layoffs
6. Negative assumptions about candidates from top tech companies (FAANG) looking for new roles
7. Rejections after multiple rounds (7-10 rounds) of interviews
8. Ghosting becoming a prevalent issue

If you're experiencing these challenges, remember that you're not alone. Many others are facing similar issues. Hang in there; the tide will eventually turn.

I work at an early stage startup with lot of responsibilities and learnings. But I don't have an exact understanding of where I stand against other folks applying for the same position. I have 2 questions related to this: 

1. How do I understand my standing in the job market? I don't have any plans of leaving my current company in near future, but you never know what can happen and I want to be prepared for such a scenario. Just to be clear, I'm not asking about interview prep, anyone can study for a few months and be interview ready. The past experience and skills picked up become the difference points in that case, and that's where my question lies. 

2. I thought of applying to companies and going through the interview process to see how I fare and where I'm lacking. But my fear in this approach is that what if folks from the interviewing company reach out to my current teammates/seniors and ask for feedback? Does that even happen during the interview stage, or only during the background verification stage after offer is accepted?

What has your experience been like in today's market compared to 2021? For people who got a huge hike in 2021, how have your appraisals been like? Are you facing issues while switching?

Personally, I haven't been getting random emails from recruiters like I used to get back in 2020/21. Have you also seen a slowdown?
