Hey folks, your favourite office manager here! I wanted to share a few small updates: 

1. ‘You’ Tab: Look to the bottom right of the app and you will now see the ‘You’ tab. This is your PRIVATE home for all your profile info, your past comments, past posts and bookmarks. 

Please note: This tab is ONLY visible to you. No one can ever see your past comments/post history on Grapevine. Not even if they ‘Search’ for your user name. Privacy is always a top priority here 🤐

Also try: Changing your user name to something cool like ‘TheExterminator’ and stop being something lame like ‘AverageJoe’

2. There have been minor bug fixes and small improvements here and there 

3. If you continue to face the Undefined bug error. The only solution so far is to reinstall the app. I know this isn’t ideal, but it is what it is :/

As always - keep throwing new ideas at us and we’ll try to build everything we can 

Lastly, something a lot of you have asked for is launching later this week - something we’ve worked on 8+ weeks to build 😇

Hey Grapevine fam! 

👋 Today, while taking a stroll down my GitHub lane, I realized it's been a hot minute since I last uploaded anything. 🕵️‍♂️ Life's hustle got me caught up in the daily grind, and I completely forgot about updating my weekend projects. 🏗️

As I delved into my repositories, I stumbled upon some old projects I left incomplete a year or two ago. 💡 It hit me—why not leverage my experience, update these gems, and share them on GitHub? 🚀 Maybe those forgotten components are more valuable than I thought and could save me time in the future. Plus, optimizing my old code with today's knowledge is a confidence booster! 🌟

One project that caught my eye was the "push-notification module." Today, I gave it the makeover it deserved. 💻✨ While it might not be the most optimized (there's always room for improvement, right?), the process brought back memories of my journey—from where I started to where I am now and where I aim to go. 🚀

Moving forward, I'm committed to completing and sharing this module on GitHub. 🤝 It's not just for me; it's for anyone who might find it useful. Here's a sneak peek at some basic features:

Hey Folks, 

A few updates to Grapevine, so please do update your app from play/app store :) 

1. A new slightly redesigned feed. We’ve adjusted font-weights and spacing to make things easier on your eyes. More refinements coming soon 

2. Post and Comment Insights: You now get insights on posts and comments where you receive more than 7 likes. This will be a feature which all writers on the app will def appreciate :) 

3. A better feed: We are constantly making adjustments to give you a better feed. Efforts such as ‘trending posts for you’ and the upcoming ‘posts you may like’ are efforts in this direction. This is something we want to get better at 

4. Results on Polls: You can now see poll results even before you answer them! We can finally lose the popcorn option. Long time pending, I know…

5. Update on Private Feeds: We now have around 2500 verified users using their company’s private feed. IMO this is one of the deepest and most useful products within Grapevine. Or so I hear :) 

We will launch 25 more companies where we have ‘critical mass’ over the coming 4 weeks! 


Upcoming - we are very close to: 
1. The rollout of DMs on Grapevine (after maybe 1000 users here scolded at us for not making it lol)
2. Rollout of the exciting new Salary Product (middle tab)
3. Grapes 2.0: Updating the Grapes formula to reflect your contribution to the community even more accurately

Grapevine Update: Insights, Feed, Polls, and more

I have been a Windows user with a pinchful of Linux Mint here and there for all of my life. I have got 15" Macbook Air M2 from my company. Ive installed basic software and now need to set it up properly.

What should I do? What apps should I download? What settings and configurations should I change?

We have a new update with lots of small (hopefully fun) features. Please update your app to version 24 to check these out: 

1. Grapes on Grapevine: Tap on any person’s user name to see how many grapes they have
2. Trending Posts for you: Across the app you will now see personalised recommendations for popular posts that you may have missed earlier 
3. GIFs in comments: Let’s see if y’all have a strong GIF game 
4. YOE in Salary Cards: much requested update. Now you can see YOE across salary cards 
5. Feed: A new faster and smoother feed experience 
6. Bug bashing: The infinite post repeat error is solved. The image upload error is also solved along with other minor bug fixes

This is not all. We wanted to rollout a few more things this week but now they're delayed to next. Sorry :/

As Grapevine enters its second year of being live, we wanted to finish the major overhaul we were building towards over the last few months. 
We've rolled out some big updates today - please do update your app.

Here's some top changes: 

1. Communities: A whole new look to communities on Grapevine, along with new features such as community sort and live member counts (screenshot attached) 
2. UI: A new font, new like (upvote) button and new community icons across the app
3. 100 Private Grapevines: We are proud/happy to share that there's now 100 private company grapevines where verified employees talk amongst each other. Join your company's Grapevine now. 
4. Grapes 2.0: A new definition for Grape rewards coming soon. Grapes 2.0 definition will include more value to users for creating 'chatty' posts and verifying yourselves 
5. Direct Messages: Multiple changes to improve the DM experience on Grapevine. You can also DM anyone from the Grapevine team (including MS) at any time without any Grape-constraints :)
6. Gestures: You can now swipe between screens on Grapevine, you can also swipe left when a post is open to go back to home screen (on iOS)

A big new update to Grapevine

I have created my Substack, & I will begin posting there next week. I will drop the link here, so subscribe if you're interested :) I will also show who is interested, how to build a trading portfolio and enter the market at the right time in the next cycle after the correction. How one can outperform the market.

The stocks that are on my radar are- 
ICICI B , JSW, Wipro, M&M. M&M has already given the entry but will wait for the pullback to get in. 

I picked up Wipro around 460. I selected Wipro before I started posting here, but will explain in another post how I chose it, just to give an idea of how to catch such moves.

JSW Steel and ICICI Bank are getting ready, and I will initiate a trade when I get confirmation.  I have entered with a probe quantity just to track it on a daily basis. They are doing the right thing for now. Again, I will only initiate if I get confirmation. I won't preempt.

Why am I going behind JSW, SBI, ICICI Bank, and Wipro? Why behind Bank Nifty, Metal index,Nifty IT when PSU, Infra, Realty, Oil, and Energy are going crazy?

Look at the index of Auto, Realty, Infra, PSU, Oil, and Gas, Energy. They have been consistently outperforming. Now if Nifty has to move up from here, which I think it will in weeks to come, I want to be in sectors and stocks that can offer a better good Risk:Reward. You always have to think about what can move next in the market.

SBI, JSW, ICICI Bank, etc., are undervalued and underperforming. The sectors I mentioned above are outperforming but overvalued at this stage.

Look at SBI and Wipro both have gone up 20% in the last 1 month without making any noise. I like it when the stock I hold keeps moving up without making noise on social media and news channels.

I was dying of boredom today so decided to build something and ended up with a wall of gif that allows random internet users to post gifs from giphy.

And just to make things interesting i have added a we socket listener that auto updates the wall when someone else posts a gif

Now you can browse 4 different feeds from the filter menu on the TOP LEFT of the app:

- Popular (Recommended)
- Recent
- Top of the Week (New)
- Top of the Month (New)

Comment Peaker: 
Many threads on Grapevine get busy with sometimes 25+ comments. Now when replying to comments - the new peak feature helps you see the comment in context as you are replying (so you don't have to relocate the comment you are replying to as you type)

Improved Design for large devices: 
We realized Grapevine kinda sucked on large phone screens. We redesigned and fixed this

Maybe I am too late for this, but I have a very minimalist setup currently at home. IMO it needs major upgrades. 

I am looking for following things to buy, feel free to share your recommendations. 

1 - Height adjustable table (ergo you finalised)
2 - A ergonomic chair ( budget 15k max)
3 - ultra wide monitor 
4 - good headphones (budget 30k max)
5 -  keyboard and mouse ( using apple ones seems to be working for now)
6 - storage unit (finalised one from ikea) 
7 - laptop (one personal one office) - laptop stand might be too much
8 - desk mat - (one from daily objects seems swanky)


Is there anything else you would add/remove to/from this? feel free to share your thought process behind building a home office setup.

What are the coolest Grapevine features?

We wanted to share what we've been up to, so you know what to expect from the app in the next 1-2 months. 

1. Bugs: We are hard at work trying to solve all the bugs that have slowly crept into Grapevine 😶

2. DMs: A polite way for users to take a few conversations deeper, and share referrals/resumes if they want to. A key worry for us would be to not make this spammy (like a few users pointed out on a recent post), while still staying helpful. 

3. Experience: A smoother, more fluid app experience coming soon

4. Moderation: As posts and comments on Grapevine increase in number - there's also a small 0.1% of users that sometimes post abusive/offensive content. We're taking these issues more seriously. We read every 'report' that you share with us and take action appropriately

5. Grapevine on Web (I swear the first build is super exciting - I'm typing this post out on an early version of Grapevine Web 😉). This should allow people to browse Grapevine while in a boring meeting 😂

6. Salaries: We're building something exciting for better salary information 💰

7. Verification: You may have seen some users on Grapevine are now verified with a blue check. Currently only launched for employees of 3 companies, we'll launch this soon for more companies. This is how we'll raise the bar on trust within Grapevine. And no, we never plan to charge for blue ticks like some other platforms. It's just a darn image ☑️

Quick Update from the Grapevine team

Thank you for all the love and support over the last few weeks. :) 

Grapevine is just 5 weeks old and we are a very small team :)  But we are trying address feature requests as they come from you all. A few things from us: 

1. We recommend you update the app from the play/app store for the best experience 
2. As per popular demand - timestamps have now been introduced in the app  (available on latest version)
3. New (and hopefully better) algo for the popular feed has been rolled out 

Lastly, please feel free to drop in your feedback and feature requests in this post. We will try to implement everything we can.

I will continue with this series for people who like this kind of content, drop "+1" in the chat and I will tag you the next time I post content.

Imagine you have a very complex situation with varying degrees of randomness. How do you evaluate the probability of certain outcomes? 

One way is a deterministic way which is to sit down and try to compute probabilities of events.
Another way is to simulate these interactions with various seed values and see how these outcomes vary. This is called a Monte Carlo simulation, where we use random sampling to model and analyze complex systems that involve uncertainty.

Let's set up a game and apply a Monte Carlo simulation to it.

You(Hero) and Me(Villain) engage in a strategic coin flipping competition over a series of rounds. Before each round, both of us independently decide whether to flip a coin or pass the turn to the opponent. 

The outcomes are as follows:

1. If both players decide to flip, a fair coin is tossed, and the player who called it correctly gains a point.
2. If one player decides to flip and the other passes, the flipping player gains a point without the need for a coin toss.
3. If both players pass, no points are gained or lost.

We can simulate it by making each decision random:
1. Hero and Villain both independently choose between 0 and 1 for deciding whether to toss or pass. We use 0 as Pass and 1 as Toss.
2. If both pass then we let the scores as is.
3. If one passes and not the other, then we add +1 to whoever decided to toss.
4. If both decide to toss then, we do a random coin flip where 0 = Heads and 1 = Tails. Hero can randomly choose between Heads or Tails. The Villain takes the opposite position.

First is the Monte Carlo Simulation and the difference between potential outcomes for 1000 rounds and 20 simulations, which is the graph shared.
