Lessons from Instagram

Here’s some context. I have been hitting the gym on and off for like a year now. My body weight is 65kgs. I can bench press 60 kgs, can deadlift 120kgs. I can jog 5kms in roughly 30 mins. I am 21 years old. Though I know these are decent numbers from a health perspective, I feel inferior when looking at people lift significantly more on social media. I feel like my body is not at all in a good shape. I see people posting insane transformations in 3 or 6 months, and here I am stagnant with my progress inspite of hitting the gym for a year now. Do anyone of you guys feel the same way? On top of this, when I share my progress with friends who don’t know much about fitness, they ain’t impressed at all. They see influencers lifting insane numbers and consider that too be the norm. FYI I don’t take any supplements, hence hitting my protein target has been pretty much not possible most days.

I spend a sad amount of time mindlessly going through Instagram. Want to cut down, and replace with better apps, that actually make my time better spent. Curious which apps you all use that make you feel better after you use them?

I have been seeing Instagram reels about easy ways to make money /entrepreneurship. It makes me feel FOMO despite being in a MNC as a software developer. There are so many things being told in reels. Also seeing content creators being paid so much Any thoughts on this ??

I will start. I am jealous of Pilots as they get to travel a lot while being paid. ( Having Airhostess/es in their close circles is also one of the reasons )

Instagram drives fomo have created epidemic of status driven consumption like ₹2500 for a one hour class of pottery, strawberry picking for Rs. 2000. What happened to free activities like playing morning cricket or enjoying IPL finale with your best friends / family . Bangalore economy is running on fomo
