Micromanage or not?

Everyone is gung ho about Leadership..Leadership this..Leadership that..but honestly how many of us are really able to follow that?

Don't you have to micromanage the team members? How do you find such motivated team members?

Honest answers only.

Micro management is not always a negative thing. As a manager you need to recognize the skills and potential of the team members. If you are managing a young inexperienced team, then you might need to micro manage them more until they learn to manage themselves (you need to put in effort to train the team to manage themselves). If you have experienced and skilled folks then you gotta learn to delegate and trust the team to do the job with micro management

Framework I follow: New hire: Teach them -> Give project -> check what they come back with

If they come back with good answers, give them more independence.

If they are confused/blocked and didn’t hustle enough then start micromanaging.

In my experience, newer managers are the ones who micro manage because they don't trust and think the ICs are beneath them and won't be able to deliver. It takes experience to get out of that mindset.

My advice:

  1. give them responsibility.
  2. give them freedom.
  3. check status for WiP periodically. Micro-management happens when ur subordinates r underpaid and not sufficient for the job.

Look if you don’t find then maybe your luck but if u do then pls do not micromanage them. Also understand good people can’t keep delivering or exceeding always.
For other kind maybe u need to inspire
