Office politics aka Buckchudi

For context: Weekends are off. So just fri WFH. This is a Series B startup. I am not even asking for a leave but WFH for just 1 day. I joined recently. The only thing I did wrong was possibly informing a little too late. Want to get opinion if I am overthinking or this classifies as toxic culture in startups where you are expected to push limits above and beyond regularly and sometimes weekends. ---

So I’ve been working as a Backend Software Engineer. Recently, my manager left the company and I’ve been assigned a new manager. Not to boast but I’m decent at my job and able to find better solutions than my peers, my old manager ignited this passion for problem solving in me. This new manager is really toxic he pass comments on my colleagues (Same level as me) you have short term memory loss, badam khaya kro and shit! He’s always chasing girls in office. There is one girl in my team he acts like a different person in front of her (although she treats him really bad because she thinks he’s a creep). So a few days back, I was working on something with some other manager who knew the context to the problem (there is an internal npm package my company has which only few developers have contributed to, I recently made my contribution to that package) and this new manager has never made any contribution to that package so he started telling the other manager that this guy(Says my name) is very slow and the other managers defends me instantly saying he’s the fastest in the team. I’m really pissed tho. I want to do something about this guy. He has been doing such things for past month and always tells the sob story of how much he has struggled in life. Need suggestions on how to tackle this? PS: I’ve asked my parents if I can resign they are fine with it but I don’t want to resign in this bad market without an offer

What sort of things a manager can talk ? Can he / she speak about body shaming with the downline person?

I have been working in HSBC GSC HYD for more than a year and as this journey comes to an end now, I would like to share my experience with you all. The first thing that comes in our mind while joining any new company is about their workplace environment and their HR policies. There have been quite a few incidents that happened during the last one year which I neglected thinking "Isn't this what corporate life feels like?" I neglected everything to the point where it became unbearable for me and made me go through some serious mental health issues and panic attacks. The most recent incident that I would like to share with you all is when I was ethnically humiliated by one of my colleague. The incident happened on 22 April 2024 when I was subjected to ethnically insensitive remarks by my colleague AA. The exacts words which was used by him is 'EK CHAMAAT MAARENGE, BIHAR PAHUCH JAOGI' which exactly means - I will slap you so hard, you will go back to Bihar. I did follow the protocol and informed my manager AT about the whole incident but nothing came out of it, except for a team meeting where I was told that my colleague did not physically assault me, it was just a hatred comment which I can let go of. I reached out to the concerned HR team and filed a POSH Complaint for the same, after weeks of the incident, on 3 May, I received an email from the HR team to give feedback for the same without any updates on what action was taken. I did let go of everything thinking that anyways I will be leaving the office soon as I am currently in my notice period when another incident happened. I was on a smoke break when VKR, AMO from the UK CDD team approached me and made objectifying remarks on me. The comment he made was 'Tmhare jaisi ladki hum aaj tk ni dekhe hai, akele pura UK team ka naam kharab kr k rkhi hai.' which means - He has never seen a girl like me, I have ruined the name of their team. I did ask him the reason for saying such things to which he replied 'tmhare alawa kisi UK team ki ladki ko hm ni dkhe hai cigarette pite huye' which means - he has never seen any girl from the UK team smoking cigarettes. Later while going back inside the office, I saw him eating tobacco and spitting on the wall inside the office premises. My LWD is 13 June 2024 and I hope this post reaches to everyone who are currently working in HSBC and to the people who are planning on joining HSBC GSC HYD before I leave. I've had the fortune of having worked in 3 countries so far. India is by far the most exciting place to be in 2024. But there's something about our work ethic that just concerns me. In both white and blue collar. In most other countries, I've observed people strictly sticking to the 9 to 5, working diligently in those hours - not wasting too much time on chai sutta breaks, instagram browsing, gupshup etc. They work for 8 hours, then leave. And think about work directly the next day. In India, most of us spend more hours - but very obviously very few of those hours are productive. In fact, I lately feel that too many people around me are doing even 2-3 hours of work on a good day. We end up just staying around, passing time, and then go back home. When we could have achieved so much more. Work ethic has fallen. Work hours have gone up. We need to be more mindful of our actions, we need to work well at work, and then do well at home. I think it's a function of being over populated. There are 1.5-2 people doing what 1 person should be doing, hence this effect. Needs to be fixed, it's the sign of a major problem in the workforce. Thoughts?

Lets use this space to describe our managers- Mine is so toxic, Has a very sad life though he is married and has one year old baby, jealous to next level,No boundaries! My manager is the most stupidest person I have ever come across in my life. Good managers are leaders on whom you can fall back to when you fuck up! Mine is so toxic that he only wants to take credit of best things done in the organization and everything otherwise he would just put on me. Keep on assigning tasks at odd hours, will msg why is this not done that not done! He has even tried silent treatment with me, as if that would work 😂 I mean he would try to show me that he is so pissed off with me because I choose not to attend his calls in off office hours, or maybe when i choose not to respond to his bullshit. Keeps getting deep into the arses of management. Would be first one to attend any parties and also the last one to leave the vicinity. Sometimes I feel so pissed off when I see people like him not been held responsible for a toxic culture at the workplace and how simply they just get away in a day by putting everythibg else on others. Being on a leadership designation, he is still so much insecure that he would leave no stone unturned to keep me out of the meetings where any achievements or good stuff is being discussed 🤦🏼‍♀️

Interested to know how stupid can our dear managers get.

I've been hearing some pretty bad things about Navi's work culture - esp. in the analytics teams. Apart from the 12-14 hour days, apparently you're not even allowed to take leaves. If you want to go home for a few days, you're asked to apply for wfh for those days. If you want to wfh, you're asked to apply for a sick leave and then work nevertheless. Can someone from Navi or otherwise confirm this?

I'll go first: "I want you to focus on doing good work and not on how much money you're making." Achchha aur mera rent kaun dega?
