On this day: 15th October
On October 15, 1864, Confederate forces under Generals John Bullock Clark Jr. and Joe Shelby captured Glasgow after a short battle. They captured a significant amount of supplies and weapons, but as you correctly noted, this victory had little long-term benefit for the Confederates. The broader Price's Missouri Expedition was ultimately unsuccessful. Just over a week later, on October 23, 1864, Price's forces were decisively defeated at the Battle of Westport near Kansas City, often referred to as the "Gettysburg of the West." This defeat effectively ended major Confederate operations in Missouri.
