For family or bachelor? Age? 2.5L is very good, 40k rent is very much affordable and reasonable

I’m a bachelor and 32M (having 5YOE, started late), but my parents make a visit every quarter and stay for over a month usually. So sharing the space with someone is not viable

Cool, I think it's totally fine. You must be saving/investing a good amount as well. I make similar amount, pay 62k as home loan emi, built house at my hometown, and live alone in pune, pays 25k rent there 32, unmarried

I'm taking 55k rent + 2.8L in hand + husband salary of 1.75 in hand 😎

By taking, I’m assuming you have a tenant paying you ₹55k?

Yup, from 2 houses - 15k & 40k

I’m curious about you starting your career late, can I ask why? Because of higher education? Masters?

FluffyUnicorn

No higher education yet. Had a yearback in college because of personal things, did not go for college placements. After college did random gigs, mostly figuring out what to do next. Later learnt Frontend engineering (self taught + mentors help) and then began my career. It was a “der aaye, magar drust aye” wala situation. Also, shoutout to India’s booming economy!

A great house is the best investment. You spend the most amount of time there. Spend more for a great house, because it gives you peace of mind and an environment to be happy.

If you look forward to going back to your house and spending time in it, it’s okay to spend. Also this is only a small part of your life. A few years amongst many.

Totally agree with this and makes sense

Since, you've asked, it reflects that you are completely aware of your spends. You are good 🙌

That’s 15% of post tax income, it’s great. Personal finance cults put the upper end at 30% of gross

isn't it okay, i m paying 17k for one room full furnished in noida with 1lpa in hand? plus like u I don't have travel expenses as office is 2km only

SnoozyDumpling
SnoozyDumpling

Sort of worth it considering you earn well and you can't afford to waste energy in commute. My office is close to Cubbon park and I found an independent 2Bhk for 15k. Although my commute time is only 30mins, I hate it. Mainly because the metro ride itself is hell every fuckinn time. 9am, 9pm no fucking change in the crowd, no fucking seats.

“Luxurious” salary in India

Content: In Tier-1 cities like Mumbai or Bangalore, ₹1L/month barely feels luxurious. Meanwhile, ₹30K/month can sustain a comfortable life in smaller towns. Here’s the breakdown I’ve noticed:

  • Villages: ₹25K-40K/month for a decent life...
