Why not learn some skills first? Either as a developer or in BD or consulting!! Believe me it is nothing like what you see on those LinkedIn PM decks where all those buggers do is paste UX enhancements on a 15 slides PPT. Learn the domain Do some basic coding, learn analytical tools, develop habit of reading. And then become a PM.

I have already given my last 1 year to learn and build PM skills. Currently trying to build my own product. As you saying about learn some basic coding, I’m not good at coding but have technical knowledge and continuously learning more.

I think it is not tough, if you follow few steps.

  1. Prepare a case study about your favorite product. Don't do it just for the sake of doing it. Put your effort and heart into it. Check Medium for how people present them.
  2. Connect with people over LinkedIn and share your case study and your CV which shows you are inclined towards Product role.
  3. Engage with people on Reddit, Twitter, Quora, LinkedIn over Product topics and don't just consume the content.

Some more things can be done but these are my top suggestions.

It is tough, but if you try the right internships and hustle hard for referrals and opportunities you may get a chance.

Another thing you want to do is - if you can’t get in as PM initially try to get in as an analyst at a product company initially

  1. High pressure on timelines- business and top management shits on you if you don’t deliver on time
  2. No power to control the outcome- engineers don’t listen to you neither does the design or analytics team, you end up begging for res...
