It is supremely obvious that SWEs are about to enter the golden era of Software Engineering. We are easily foreseeing 2x-2.5x improvement in developer productivity rate. You should go touch some grass or else you will end up becoming PM guru who shills substandard-courses to poor kids.

PM as seen by Engineers: 
 1. Doesn't do anything other than throwing random jargons 
 2. Can't explain what they do other than say how they are not Program manager or something else

1. You are building a software that otherwise could be built by a 12 year old kid, if given proper training.
2. You cannot code if I cut off google, stackoverflow & related websites.
3. You are just concerned about producing the output quickly because a. your work is time bound, b. you want to stand out from others.
4. You attend countless meetings that carry no value, thanks to Agile.
5. 10 people write code for the same software which otherwise could have been written by 1 person.
6. You write pages of documents just because you are expected to write for the team, compliance & stuff.
7. You don’t care about non-functional requirements as nobody asked for it.
8. You are spending hours together in coding a simple thing & you are branded a hard-worker.
9. Or you don’t spend much time in coding because you impress people with tech jargons that you learnt recently. You are branded a smart-worker.
10. The code you write will be completely rewritten in next 3-4 years just to catch up with the industry trends.
11. Your only goal is to earn loads of money which otherwise could not be earned in other engineering fields. That’s one of the reasons why you are on grapevine.

I've turned 27, roughly 3yoe earning 50k which is low but I'm upskilling. Currently due to layoffs, AI news and just a very unhealthy state of IT things are getting very depressing and I personally feel like I've already lost or missed in life. 
People are planning to get married around me everything is so sudden. 

People of grapevine, what advice would you want to give people like me who feel lost. 
Any general advice such as financial planning, lifestyle changes or just tech advice any advice which has helped you to live peacefully and comfortably would be greatly appreciated.

Advice : Please stop with the tutorial and enrolling in courses after course. Doesn't take you anywhere. Been there and done that.  
  
 You will end up with stupid clones which does seem like a value add in your resume. It's just there in everyone's resume.  
  
 Build one project, one solid project, maybe something to do with MFE. Not CRA react app but something with webpack if you prefer. Maybe a ecom app with seperate mfe for order and billing. Show the interaction between them, post on Twitter while you build. Share insights and maybe you will end up being in a recruiter's eye.

Everyday I open youtube/grapevine/teamblind its has keywords AI + Shocked or it will replace our jobs.

My take on why AI might not replace our jobs.

1. Running AI agents or AGI requires significant electric power. If every company starts using it in some way in the future. All the code might be exposed. What if AGI builds its own version and starts selling and shuts down its employer considering its super intelligence.

2. If people dont pay taxes. How will government run? Who will buy the products in the market? Wont people start stealing/hurting others to meet basic needs?

3. Many jobs in todays world use computers in someform. But we only talk about the software engineers. There are non tech people who use computers in their works. Those are pretty much repetitive and can be easily automated. Many are not aware about chatgpt.

On the other end people talk about alternative jobs and the safest job is farming in most of the posts.

1. Cant the rich build humanoid robots to do the same. Can't big corporates buy lands and build vertical farms and run with robots.

2. What big corporates are going to do with the excess money laying us off in the end if all the jobs are taken, as if the people running or owning them are going to live their life eternally. Unless they find a way to upload their existence into a robot.

3. I'm not sure if people posting about AI taking jobs have worked on atleast building basic ML models like linear regression or used MNIST data to detect numbers using neural networks. For most of us AI is a blackbox and we 
do not know about its full potential.

My take on AI
1. AI can aid humans in their tasks or make developers like us to wear multiple hats. Like combination of backend, frontend, mobile, devops, machine learning, cybersecurity. Helpnus better debug.

2. I feel like all these CxO's just blabber to get high funding, spread fear while they chill in their yatch.

This includes PMs and engineers who oversee 1-2 features in the entire product. And will oversell their part in it.

For promotions to job switches these guy have to shout ‘I used a lot of Gen AI to change the world’

And then to sell it on LinkedIn for getting likes.

The PMs will sound like they were just as visionary as Sam Altman who made GPT in the first place. 

And the engineers will sound like they coded GPT and will invent AGI themselves while they just integrate 2 APIs.

It's time we face an uncomfortable truth: AI is coming for our jobs, and it's coming fast. But it might be the best thing that has happened to ProdMan. Here's why:

1. AI will eliminate mediocrity because significant portion of PMs are just glorified project managers or feature pushers. AI will easily replace these roles.

2. True product thinking will finally be more valued. Those who can strategize, innovate, and truly understand user needs will become indispensable. The era of the "fake it till you make it" PM is over. I am seeing this across my org now.

3. This will finally help us focus on outcomes, not outputs. AI can churn out roadmaps and PRDs faster than any human. This will push PMs to concentrate on the "why" rather than the "what".

4. Finally, WLB will be better for all of us. With AI doing the heavy work, the remaining PMs can focus on high-value activities, potentially reducing burnout.

5. This will lead to democratization of product skills. Basic PM tasks will become automated and more people across organizations will develop product thinking. So you need less PMs as is.

Now, I know this is a hard pill to swallow. Many of you will probably say that the human element in ProdMan can't be replaced. But ask yourself... In a world where AI can analyze user data, predict trends, and even generate creative solutions, what truly sets you apart?

Those who adapt with AI will thrive. Those who don't... well, there's always project management. 🤡

Today, I posted comment on grapevine about how AI is different from industrial revolution, pc, mobile, internet revolution which created very high paying jobs. However grapeviners started ridiculing me. 

it’s weird it feels like most people both in and outside of ai aren’t able or unwilling to extrapolate the current level of technology even one iteration into the future and plan for it. 


I have been having these severe arguments with my peers who think that will never replace us. Like HOW CAN YOU BE SO SHORT SIGHTED.

Just 3 months ago i was showing ai art and talking about how it is gonna replace artists, and one my peers just said "ai can't draw hands so it will never replace artists" like BRUH DONT YOU FUCKING SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE. Can't you see the rate at which it's progressing? How can you claim that it won't replace us in the future, they act like the ai is static and that it doesn't learn. It's so frustrating. Now when ai can't draw hands, they will just pick something else like "yea but it can't do this" like BRUH YOU SAID THE SAME SHIT A MONTH AGO. WHY CANT TOU SEE THAT ITS FUCKING EVOLVING. ARE YOU ALL BLIND??? They say ai is stupid and that our future will remain like our present. I mentioned an example of how a small group of artists were replaced by a company, and they just said "but that's just a small group of people" LIKE BROOOOOOOOOO YOU WERE SAYING THEY WOULDNT BE REPLACED AT ALL A FEW MONTHS AGO, CANT YOU SEE WHERE WE ARE HEADING? When i talk about this, they just accuse me, calling me an overthinker, and that is should spend my time doing something else.

"If you like ai so much, then why don't you just marry it?"

Where does this stupid thought process come from, why can't they see into the future, yes the tech sucks now but can't you see the rate at which it has been improving???

To the cynics, while this is a demo and there might be a lot more work to be done to get this product to "employee-grade", the fact that this has even started happening now... is crazy!

At this rate of progress, I wouldn't bet against a fundamental disruption to SWE as we today know it, within the next 5 years. That's food for thought for those in the profession: either you are in the top 20% or you are replaceable by AI agents like Devin.
