Imagine a GPT for robots! That's what this paper is aiming for—a generalist robot that can perform a wide range of tasks. Right now, we have robots designed for specific, narrow tasks. This research is a step towards creating robots that can handle anything you throw at them

What’s a Generalist Robot Policy?

In simple terms, a policy is a neural network that decides what action a robot should take. It takes in observations (like text and images) and outputs control units.

Types of Control Units

1. Joint Control: The model specifies exactly what each joint should do (like the angle of an elbow).
2. End Effector: This is a fancy name for the gripper. The model outputs movement and rotation vectors for it.

The Process

1. Input: Task tokens (text), observation tokens (images), and readout tokens (a summary of task and observation tokens).
2. Output: Control units from the action head (a diffusion model).

Challenges

- Speed: Transformers are powerful but can be slow due to processing limitations. MLPs (Multi-Layer Perceptrons) can be faster but lack the generalization needed for different robots.
- Data: Currently, the available dataset is limited. However, with access to more data, we can expect these policies to become much more efficient.

In essence, this paper is pushing the boundaries in the field of robotics, aiming to create versatile robots capable of performing a wide array of tasks.

I am a python Developer having experience of 7.3 years. In this span I have worked as a Data Engineer with Geospatial data, RestFul API Developer, Away API gateway Integration and development Engineer. Right now since last 1.6 years working as ML engineer (80% software development+ 20% Data science exposure to me, There is Data scientist team for model development). Now I want to switch but confused that should I learn Deep learning in deep and practice in my current project before switch or I should master DSA and UI (React JS) and switch as SDE or Lead position. 
Adding to my tech stack, I have good knowledge to work with AWS, and Azure and using python SDKs for both. Beginner/Good experience with Docker kubernetes as well.

Please suggest me so that I can make a choice to switch my company and get place in a Good org with good payment and work culture.

Hiring for Cloud&AI Engineering/management roles in IBM Labs.

I am an entry level analyst in at Deloitte. Just wondering if these are some signs of a practice not doing great + potential layoffs in a few months/year.

1. Utilization: ~45% last quarter. They originally said that it was a slow start to the year with low CapEx by companies but we still don't look good this quarter now.

There was a small call last night between a few people in this project level meeting and the senior management straight up said "Their is no demand and people are still on bench. We need to reallocate some headcount"

2. Headcount growth - Last 1.5 years ago, every month we had 10-15 people join our practice, This has literally gone down to 1-2 hires to replace people who have left.

3. Resignations: 6-7 people are leaving every month in my practice, which is quite harsh. Someone told me that everyone they used to work with when they joined have already left.

4. AI-pocalypse - I feel most companies think that they can now do AI inhouse and niche projects but higher costs because of MS/PhD folks working on it is something they dont want to go for anymore.

If a layoff is incoming, what would be the best ways to prep?

I see two options:
1. Getting on a boring sad project but long term.
2. Do nothing: I am literally the cheapest resource in the company so they would ideally layoff senior folks first, right??
