Switch or no switch, that is the question

Why switch? Why not switch? What were the motivations that you had when you thought of switching and whether the result was favourable to you or not?

Early career - switch when you think growth has plateaued / don't have a mentor
Mid career - switch when you are not being compensated fairly / looking for a career rejig (new sector/role) with disproportionate upside Senior career - switch when you feel like the current role doesn't allow you to cultivate high agency

Have switched because of the former 2 reasons 3x so far over a tenure of 10 yrs. Has been rewarding financially, and a step change in learning. Now seeking stability till I reach a senior enough role.

I understand the financial reward is a key upside for switching. But did you ever feel like the toll of restarting at a new organization was, maybe, not fully compensated by the higher pay?

Leaving a workplace where you spend 3/4 years isn't as easy, right? So, how did it affect you on a personal level and how did you respond to that?
