Tips on finding startups for internship
I'm a 3rd year student looking for internship opportunities in December. I'm looking for potential full stack roles. I tend to work on scalable backend stuff and on the frontend side, I've worked on decent projects (mostly integrating ml models with a frontend). The thing is, I'm confused right now. I feel like it's better to start working in a startup as I don't have practical industry experience. My main issue right now is not knowing how to find startups or how to email them, what to include in the email and so on. I'm completely blank and new to applying for jobs and I'm looking for some input here on how to approach this.

Hey so I don’t have a lot of experience in tech but I do have a fair bit of experience in looking for non tech roles. Here’s what worked for me:
1. Make a list of all the startup’s that you are interested in. All the names that you have heard of, any recently funded ones ( you can follow some good newsletters to keep a track).
2. Once you have this list, start making a list of potential POCs. College peers, alums etc ofc go in there. Just go on their LinkedIn page and see who all from your network work there and drop them a message.
3. If you don’t know anyone there, then try to find emails/LinkedIn accounts of people in the relevant department in the company.
4. See if you can get a warm intro I.e. uk someone who knows them. Else you’ll have to cold mail/message.
5. Now what has really worked for me is instead of the standard cold mail talking about myself and why I am an amazing person that they should hire, I talk about them, or specifically their industry. I talk about what I think of the industry, what trends excite me about it and where I think the industry is going. I talk about what direction should they take. Now of course this isn’t some insane advice but just shows that I have put in the effort to read up and know some things about the industry. A quick time saving tip is to send the same mail to all the startup’s in the same industry solving similar problems or for similar users. This does make the process a bit bearable and in the process I too gain an understanding across multiple industries.
Now I was primarily interested in non tech so this is what worked for me. Maybe you can devise a similar strategy for tech. Hope this helps!
