fuck this shit. how many more lives do we need to lose before we wake the fuck up? saurabh kumar laddha, 25, jumped from the ninth floor after a grueling day at mckinsey. a few months later, anna sebastian perayil, 26, worked herself to death at ernst & young. two brilliant minds, two futures gone, all because these corporate fuckers can’t stop squeezing every last drop out of their employees.

let’s not bullshit ourselves—these consulting firms aren’t saving the world. they’re not curing cancer, and they sure as hell aren’t solving world hunger. they’re making fancy powerpoints and throwing around buzzwords to justify their obscene fees. and the way they do it? by grinding young talent into the ground.

“you can work at night. that’s what we all do.” that’s the toxic crap they’re feeding people. since when did destroying your mental health become a badge of honor? these firms dangle prestige and big paychecks like a carrot, luring in the brightest minds, only to chew them up and spit them out.

here’s the kicker—these same fuckers wouldn’t pull this shit in other countries. they know they’d get sued or face real consequences. but in india? they’ll use their influence to brush it under the rug, just like they did with saurabh. a few weeks of fake concern, some empty promises about “employee well-being,” and then it’s back to business as usual.

this isn’t work culture; it’s a death cult. these firms are sacrificing young lives on the altar of corporate greed. and for what? so some ceo can add another zero to their bonus? so the partners can buy another vacation home?

let’s call it what it is: corporate manslaughter. these companies are killing our youth with their insane demands and toxic culture. and they’re getting away with it because we let them. we buy into their bullshit about prestige and career growth, forgetting none of that matters if you’re dead.

how many more people need to die before we say enough is enough? how many more mothers need to write heartbreaking letters about their dead children? how many more dreams need to be shattered before we realize this system is fundamentally broken?

we need to ask the tough questions. why are we letting these companies treat people like disposable resources? why are we normalizing 80-hour work weeks and celebrating burnout like it’s some sort of accomplishment? why are we letting these corporate vampires suck the life out of an entire generation?

this isn’t just about mckinsey or ernst & young. it’s about a whole fucked-up system that values profit over people, that sees human beings as nothing more than cogs in a machine. and it’s about time we broke that machine.

no job, no project, no deadline is worth a human life. period. these companies need to be held accountable, and we need to stop glorifying this toxic bullshit. long hours aren’t a sign of dedication; they’re a sign of a broken system that’s killing us.

it’s time for real change, not just empty promises and pr spin. because if we don’t do something now, how many more saurabhs and annas will we lose before we finally say “no more”?

This post is written in light of the recent incident where a fellow quit his job with "Dhol and Dance" to start his own venture into fitness training. I am not supporting the act or trivializing his pain. I am just trying to make the point that office pressure is real and unbreable. Be human first.

So, I joined this company located in Delhi last year from Bangalore as a permanent WFH employee. Initial 6 months were fine, even though I was aware they had pre-installed tracking software called "Teramind" while sending  the laptop! But in the last 3 months the work culture or environment has completely flipped and turned into Toxic.

First they made us install a remote tracking software called "Hubstaff"  which tracks keyboard and mouse activity and time, and takes 4 screenshots every 10 minutes.

Then they made it compulsory 8 hours a day excluding any break like lunch or tea.

This month they tied work hours with Salary and started deducting the entire day's pay even if you are short by like half an hour!  

Almost all employees know they need to leave but are kinda stuck due to the current job market situation.

I'M thinking of quitting without finding another job now, I'm just mentally tired and frustrated with the situation I find myself in. All my emotional energy is spent, I just don't know what to do😞

A company called loop health started allowing remote work and hiring in early 2022 soon after receiving $25 million dollars investment. 
Founders are a great pair in the initial but as soon after investment of series A , difference broke out and one of the co-founders left the company in the name of sabbatical from backdoor out. He was visionary and had great product sense which the CEO got jealous of and stopped him at all the cost of investors recognising him. Anyway now the real unhealthy thing is not this story but due to this product the scope got messed up and customers started complaining and renewals badly hit to 60-80%. The competitor got them easily , one of the sales people said on call at a loop that loop company customers are easy to catch for competitors.
Now the real story is, the CEO wanted only the Pune office to survive and all remote employees to leave so he did a little magic ✨. Instead of laying off people, strategically not compensating anyone started layoff from the beginning of the 2023 this year by asking each outsider to resign and leave. The strategy was simple, 
Find weakness and make them accept simple mistakes as well and ask them to resign. At the same time, hire contractors at Pune to join and work. If any employee is strong or doesn't want to leave then make them contract employees and expect work in the same way.
This is not at all acceptable and the CEO is not alone on this. CEO, CTO , CPO involved plan. 
The problem with this approach is unfair practices, if someone makes a mistake they won't give any PIP plan. They just fire them in easy  ways to resign. CEO proudly says he wants great tennis 🎾 team but infact ceo is just a ball boy.

My family doesn't have an issue. But I'm scared if it will be a problem to find another good job as I'll be jobless? I have 6 months gap before joining here for education. Not sure how many anime fans are here, but I was recently watching this new anime called “Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead”, which basically shows how a corporate employee is so fed up with his messed up job, that the first thought he has, when zombie apocalypse hits is, “I don’t have to go to work anymore!”, and he’s out to do things that he always wanted to.

Anyways, in the new episode, its shown how a toxic leader/boss/senior behaves. And man, was that so accurate!! 

It shows how these leaders make you work like hell, belittle you, and misbehave with you. Even if you think of leaving the job, they make you believe how hard it is to survive without your current job, and how the work you’re doing is nothing, and that you can be easily replaced. 

And in the end, after fucking up your mental peace, they will come and show a little bit of sympathy, telling they how they just push you for your own sake. Acting like some wise old “mentor you never had”.

And you know, what the worst part is, since all your colleagues are living in the same environment, since everyday you go through the same toxicity over n over, it becomes normal for u. Your brain adjusts, and it seems to think that this is how the world is. 

Moreover, if you are a fresher, and you don’t have any prior experience of work culture, you seem to believe thats how work life is, and will always be. 

I’m ranting this out, since i wasted around 1-1.5 years of my life in such startup, and it wasn’t just the time that was wasted, it also took my passion, my energy, my motivation and my goal with it. 

To all the folks who might be in a similar situation, I just want to say, I know it’s hard and I know you probably can’t leave due to some financial situations or other issues. But BELIEVE ME when i say that nothing in this entire world comes above your mental health. Save that first folks. Be selfish, saving others can wait!

I work in an early stage startup. The startup expects you to work any number of hours which seem suitable for the job. Saturdays are official. The product manager of the team doesn't bring the requirements clearly and just asks engineers to build what the client wants. The engineers do all the competitive market research and build features. Additionally, boot licking of seniors and leaders is ingrained in his nature. All he does is ask for updates on the tasks and if something breaks which may not be a bug just creates a bug ticket of it and then asks for updates on them without verifying if it is reproducible. This creates a lot of tickets and at times a single engineer dealing with 20+ tickets. Additionally, he pings on Sundays for random issues and updates. He also posts random warning or error logs from applications and asks engineers to check them without knowing the context and if there is an issue the client is facing. The CTO, the VP and the director doesn't push back this behaviour and adhoc requests on engineers from PMs. How to work in such an environment? Concerned since have only spent about 4 months in the job. 

Please give practical tips and advices.

Tackling Toxic Work Culture

Apparently the company is trying really hard to do damage control but the cat is out of the bag. They’ve been abhorrent in the way they conduct their company.

This is a tight slap to anyone who expects unreasonable working hours without fair compensation.

**Story**

On October 7th, their reporting manager set some alarming expectations right off the bat. The manager demanded unpaid overtime and excessive work hours beyond what's typically considered reasonable.

When the employee tried to establish healthy boundaries and bring up work-life balance, the manager's response was dismissive and mocking. He belittled these concepts as "fancy terms" and "Western developed nation behavior," implying they had no place in this work environment. The manager even ridiculed the employee's desire for personal time to read and exercise, treating these basic needs as mere excuses.

There's a significant difference between voluntarily putting in extra effort for your own passionate project versus being coerced into overwork by an established, profitable company.

Designer resigns on first day after Manager’s 💩behaviour

We may call this unprofessional and vain but deep down we envy not able to pull this off. More power to Shreyas!

Just now I was reading a post that a person has to forcefully resign due to a toxic manager/work environment. Shouldn't there be a movie 🍿 about toxicity of office managers, as there was 3idiots for choosing career. Like how employees get treated in banks (that video which went viral, manager yelling at an employee), another example when an employee stood up against his manager (order swiggy par karo jake), there are so many examples. My team and I also face a hell level of micro-management daily but no one speaks up about it. I tried highlighting it to my manager and team but no benefit. In my company, even if you make an HR complaint they are helpless and reroute you to the manager only. I think it's the same for others as well. Any opinions?? 

P.S. Not saying every manager is bad. I have worked with some great ones as well.

For context: Weekends are off. So just fri WFH. This is a Series B startup. I am not even asking for a leave but WFH for just 1 day. I joined recently. The only thing I did wrong was possibly informing a little too late.

Want to get opinion if I am overthinking or this classifies as toxic culture in startups where you are expected to push limits above and beyond regularly and sometimes weekends.

Not a great culture, also you don’t have to give the actual reason, instead say due to some unavoidable work or family health reason you will need to wfh. Its a good way of seeing what kind of employer one is, when they also treat urgencies like that. Indians feel they need to give a detailed explanation as to why they deserve wfh or leave, whereas in international companies, you just have to inform the manager.

Joined a product based Company two months back. Company culture is great. decent pay. good policies like insurance, cab, leaves etc.
But in the department I'm working at, the work is very Toxic.
It's minimum 9 hours everyday (continuous stretch). and what's surprising is stress and hectic work is normalised here. No one talks about. no signs of change as well.

Initially things were good , but from the last few months The workplace turned toxic and all the nasty things started happening around me.
The burn out was deteriorating mental and physical health, so i lost my patience and resigned.
