First thing first your hands on and fundamentals should be good to pick up task soon as u join ur first dev role.My first job was support role where I started learning and practising frontend.Then switched here presently into development role.It will take some time but be consistent and you will get there.

Learn Version control like git and all important commands, GitHub, remote repository etc basically things you will have to do when working in a team of developers.

Hello community,

This post is for getting guidance/opinion on the role switch from support role to development role. I really need help from fellow colleagues and exp professionals to proceed further.

So, I had 2.5 years of experience in SAP domain and recently I have switched internally (within the org) to the software engineering team that has complete back end work to do for a foreign client. Tech-stack is Java 17, Eclipse Jersey, MySQL, MongoDB, Azure Cloud and some other technologies too.

Parallelly I have been a part of an online platform for software engineering courses (eg. Bosscoder etc), where I learnt DSA, spring boot, HTML, CSS and JavaScript with React framework. The front end engg. part is not covered yet, but a part of the curriculum.

Now my doubt is, I am planning to work for some months here and in my resume, stretch the starting time of the SWE role,  to shadow down the SAP experience. Like 4-5 months experience shown as a year or so. Tell me if it can be a good strategy to reduce barriers of not having experience to join SDE roles in prod-based MNCs. (I know, that I will have to showcase deserving skills, based on experience, in the next company to get an offer, but still!)

Secondly, can the backend framework (Jersey) become a barrier to the job switch to java spring boot roles. Some people told me that experience matters and not the frameworks. I need ur opinions.

Lastly, I am recruited as a Senior software engineer, I will have to prove my worth not just to other companies, but  internally within the team. How can I learn more in less time, to equalise the skills with the job role, not 100% but even 60-70% would work. Where to start, what to take care?!

I'm currently doing java DSA (350) & picking up on springboot tutorials. Given the support job role, 90 days np, & current market, how difficult is it to land a backend developer role. (Happy to take paycut).

Or should I just quit my current role & enroll for some placement bootcamps.

I’m currently pursuing my MCA and in my last semester. As part of my academic career, I need a job or internship to submit the report for my final semester, so I grabbed this opportunity. I’m working at RBL Bank as an Associate Application Support Engineer, where my tech stack includes Oracle, RPA, Python, and Postman API.

However, my real interest lies in development, specifically as a Java Developer or Fullstack Developer. If I get an opportunity to work as a developer, will my internship experience and current salary make an impact, or will I have to start as a fresher?

I’d appreciate any advice or insights from those who have made a similar transition.

Career Advice Needed: Transitioning from Support to Development

I joined infosys in oct - 2022 and now it’s been 1.8 months. My tech stack is MEAN stack but I was on bench through the year, recently got into a project but for only 4 months. I developed and learned by my own and gained a better knowledge on angular.
Now the situation my company has made for me that I need to switch asap, within a month or two.

Can anyone suggest me how to prep specifically so that I get offers from other company.

My DSA skills are gone and feel like I need to learn again from basics.
I have knowledge about angular.

Can anyone suggest me how much DSA I should learn and focus right now to clear interviews.
I’m planning to get a grasp over python and start doing DSA questions in that plus polishing my angular skills too. 
I have basic knowledge of node.js MongoDb too.

Will I’ll be able to switch within this time frame?

Please can anyone guide me through it so that I can plan smartly and can switch.

Short version:-So guys I am working as an automation tester wanted to switch to Development?

Long version:- So i joined my current  company as fresher.Had basic knowledge of java then was trained on java spring boot Microservices devlopment. Then put on bench for about 5 month(i actually wasted that time).Now got a project I do automation using python and selenium.I don't like doing it . So now I want to switch to development. Confused should i learn Django, Node js or should stick with java spring only. I am more inclined towards django as now i write automation script in python. And i personally feel it to be better then java (maybe cause it is easier to write).But i don't know market trends. That's why guidance needed.Thanks in advance
