Lol even I am in the same boat, graduated this year and doing internship since past more than 1.5 years and now they are telling that they will convert me when they raise series A funding though I am getting paid some what okayish, 
  
  so I have now got another offer from a US based company but there is 2 weeks trial period and hence I have not resigned yet, so I am doing two jobs now, 1 is morning 9 30 to 6 30 or 7 and then 7 30 to 1 30🙂 but I thank God that I did not resigned from internship, though I am getting paid in dollars in new company but the work is shit like I am not learning anything there, its very basic work Whereas at my internship I am constantly challenged( though this is no more a internship I work at par the full time employees and deliver the same)

I feel like i get it, he needs to pay his bills and he doesn't owe these guys anything, they wanna pay peanuts, they expect a person to live off of it, ofc they would look for other op.

And it's not a forever thing, the internship ends in a month and a half.

Is he an asshole for this?

I'm currently working on an FTE job - wherein the offer letter its mentioned "During the term of your employment with the Company, you may not engage in any employment or act in any way, which either conflicts with your duties and obligations to the Company, or is contrary to the policies or the interests of the Company."

Now, I'm getting enough time and I want to consider working in a 0-1 startup, and the new company I'm joining will know about my current employer - The above mentioned is the only clause the current employer have regarding working in other company. Can the current employer legally put a case anytime in the future if they get to know this? - what are the loopholes I can use here?

What position I can join in as (Consultant, Advisory role) - Still an early career professional in order to avoid conflict afterwards.

In this situation where a employer can hire and fire anyone anytime, why “moonlighting” or working part time, having a business, doing something of your own should be problem?

If a employer can dump their employees anytime then they have to look for themselves, they have life, expenses, dependencies.

This is a high time companies change their points on this in appointment letters and contracts.

What do you guys think?

Why one shouldn’t work outside there company?

I've resigned and our co-founder gave me an offer, where I'll be officially released but I have to work after office hours & will get paid accordingly (for temporary period) 
I'm sorta inclined towards the offer, I'll get some extra money + the work load isn't much, I can do it along with my day job. 


Now what are the factors I should take care of while finalizing this decision? How to make sure my bgc remains clean or something?

How the payment will happen? Ofc they will propose me something, but I wanna be prepared from my side as well.

PS: I'm also okay declining the offer, except the fact the company will suffer, which I don't want to (as we are very small team), and I genuinely want it to be successful.

Can you take payments in your own account or in account of someone else?

These days people get internship in there second year of college and continue as an intern for 2 years. Companies don't allow them a full time position citing college regulations. I think this is unfair to candidates as they do full time work at interns compensation and position. Do you think this is justified?

Hi! I just finished my second year at a tier-1 college. I’ve been looking for internships to do this summer, and a startup offered me a backend role of 10k pm stipend that required 8 hours a day commitment. I’d have to travel to their 2-3 times a week to their office that’s 7-8 kms away.

I know a decent amount of web dev, have built a MERN clone of Reddit, and I’m pretty good at algorithms. 

Upon asking one of my mentors about this, he that the guy who’s offering me this role is simply ripping me off. I just wanted a second opinion on this. 

Am I being underpaid?

- he’s hardly focused 
- he’s hardly trying to expand her role at work 
- he’s regularly on external calls taken secretly

Why is moonlighting unethical? Let’s keep legality aside for a minute although it is not illegal. 
 Your senior leaders are directors at multiple companies. 
 CEO of startups like Lenskart, shadi etc are sitting on TV for personal investments which they will make money of and spending hours in shooting. Those same CEOs layoff as per their whims and fancies. 
 But when a lowly employee with a meagre salary tries to increase his/her earning potential, this crab mentality kicks in and it becomes unethical. 
  
 A person can be too good to handle both(or more) jobs superbly. However, if there are performance issues, you deal with that as an employer. It’s not like people working on a single job don’t underperform. 
  
 Also, there are 24 hours in a day and I am “supposed “ to work for 8 hours. Mathematically, a person can work 3 jobs in a day (and try to sleep at work). 
  
 We all rooted for Will Smith in the “Pursuit of Happiness “.

Recently set out to hire interns and had a really strange experience

Went through about 170 CVs. Most were shabbily formatted - which is okay, I understand most people aren’t that serious in college.

But then after shortlisting and setting up interviews:
- Multiple kids just did not show up for the interview. They did not even write a mail excusing themselves. Or reply to any mail from me about them missing the call.

- Some of them literally turned up for the call on their phone. They’re mostly well to do, and definitely have laptops. But just casual. 

- This reduced my selection pool to literally 8-9 interns from 180. Of these too, generally saw most of them had too much overconfidence and arrogance about them. Barely went into the depth of the answers, and would over-portray their contribution in past projects/internships, without being able to explain what they really did

I am genuinely shocked and taken aback. These were all Tier 1 college kids, and I just did not expect it to be so bad. A shock for me, and a future shock for many of these kids when they get into the workforce!

What comes under moonlighting in india ?

Arround 30% of the backend team at Devtron, Gurugram has been laid off citing performance issus which includes both Interns and full-time. The problem is they mentioned FTE on the offer letter of the interns still their offer were revoked.

All of them were hardworking guys who used to work for more then 10+ hours a day in office, completing their task in ASAP.

Performance was not an issue, they just wanted to layoff.
Interns were paid 20 K per month and were expected to work like FTE with 1 to 2 year of experience.

A month before they started pressuring to complete and handover all the task as soon as possible to get it into production 😂 so that they are in no loss.

The layoff was done on the same day on the company organised a party to celebrate.


This is for people who will be joining them as Inter n or FTE. Do not join the company if you are not ready for this thing and you are not ready for toxic management and work culture.

Work life balance is 0 here 

Be ready to become a robot 🤖 if you still join.

Hi, I am currently working as an SDE in India. I want to start a small business (online consultancy) with a friend which will require some legal stuff like GST and partnership firm/company registration in India. 

For the initial days of the business, we will be working full time as well and will work on our business in our free time. If this scales well, we'll probably leave our jobs and work on the business full time.

Now, I have a few questions regarding this
- is it a case of moonlighting? 
- What will happen if my employer gets to know this in the future? 
- What are the legal implications in India for this?
- What are the workarounds for this? 

I've seen many people selling some courses or having a restaurant or some small business along with full time employment. How do they manage to do so?

IIT grad here building a venture backed startup. I think 99% of folks here believe that venture backed founders are super entitled and in a much "cosier" position than employees

Just sharing a few facts about our journey so far if it helps anyone improve their perspectives-

1) Paying ourselves 33% of our campus salary & 60% of what we are paying to our employees (Talking about Pure Base Salary here, not including ESOPs)

2) Insane stress - You basically have to raise money to build (esp if its deeptech because of the high fixed costs) and there are predefined metrics you have to always chase, sometimes just beyond yourselves. 

Your product will be copied if it's good because well, they always have more money than you. You work 7 days a week for insane hours, chasing metrics required to be "afloat" 

3) 99% of venture backed startups result in 0 liquidity gain for founders. So basically in all likeliness, everything is for a net negative return compared to if we took the campus job

So, when you wholeheartedly bash founders as if they are sitting On a goldmine while you are toiling for THEIR gold Treasure, just understand that more likely than not, there is not really any gold but rather an irrational hope they are clinging to

Also, Yes-we pay above market to our employees (100% hike for the last one) but the truth is some startups just Can't afford it. And ironically, there is a much higher looking down on these startups with meagurely paid founders rather than giants like Tech Mahindra paying peanuts to their employees while having a 1000% salary hike for the executives. 

Yeah, most startups need to do better but please appreciate if someone is atleast trying to do better because trust me, it's INSANELY HARD.. 

The number of posts I see about Flipkart making hundreds millionaires is way too less than the ones I see about pinpointing at every single mistake early stage startups do & I just wanted to express my opinion on it
