WTF is up with Swiggy - A Swiggy Scam Story

Recently, I heard a very interesting story about Swiggy from someone. Their mum booked a high value order as a surprise for them on Swiggy. Since they had a Swiggy One subscription, the whole family used the same account.

Halfway through, the delivery person calls them, says the vehicle broke down. Mum steps away to deal with something else and when the delivery person calls again, their dad picks up. The delivery person says the vehicle broke down but he'll figure something out and send it with someone else, but to do that first, he'll need their details. He proceeds to ask for their phone number (linked to account) and for the OTP sent from Swiggy? Sounds super strange but the dad took pity and figured sure, let me try and make this delivery person's unlucky day a bit nicer — after all, it's a Swiggy account anyways, what harm could it do. He shared the OTP.

Almost immediately after, the delivery person changed the phone number for the account and everyone logged in lost access to the account. Ofc, he scammed the order for himself. The real kicker is that their Email ID was still linked to the account, so anytime the delivery person makes an order, they get an email with his order details. So far, they've been regularly getting order details emails with orders for paan, gutkha, cigarettes and some sides/chakna, all to some mall. 😂

Now, cool story bro, but how is this Swiggy's fault, you ask? Well, support has been contacted multiple times, over multiple accounts, but to no avail, because clearly their customer support has gone to shit. Even with the address and phone number of the delivery person who scammed them, and having an email id linked to the account, they've been of absolutely no help, as if their hands are tied. Their user workflows are so brittle, they don't account for the simplest locked out of account scenarios, let alone address security concerns and protect the customer from their own agents. Truly a wonder this company is worth anything.

Just use the "forgot password" feature and it will send u a link to your email id no?

Does Swiggy even have a "forgot password" feature still (or even a password)? I've only seen the login screen ask for the phone number for the longer time now.

@ShadyTorque oh. you're right. no easy fix. good luck man. and this is a good lesson to never ever ever give your OTPs to anyone. thankfully this just a weird swiggy account take over scam and not a bank scam.

Why don't you guys escalate such stuff legally? Consumer courts are there for a reason and legal notices do startle the company. You can claim damages too

I had the same suggestion. But tbf, anything associated with legality/litigation in this country is typically considered too much of a (long drawn out) hassle to have to deal with that consumes too much mental bandwidth.

I used to love swiggy but I am literally contacting their customer support for 1 in 3 orders. It is become a shit show. The orders are always late, instamart orders have damaged products and so much spillage issues. Order hot chocolate once and got it 3/4 empty because all of it spilled. If you are charging so much for One membership atleast have some basic SOPs with your restaurants

Order paan, gutkha, cigarettes and some sides/chakna (with free delivery) apparently. ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯ Maybe the delivery person could also use this to try and boost/stat pad their delivery stats? Not sure about the specifics of Swiggy's reward systems for delivery persons.

I am unable to digest the fact that this story is not popular on social media enough for swiggy to react as soon as you start posting thing on social media companies are forced to react. God bless me never faced an issue whether i have taken it to social media issue got resolved in no time.

I have had the worst experience with Swiggy. They do not do any background checks on the delivery partners, like what kind of people they hire. And even after complaining to customer service, they do not take any action.
I had ordered a Subway sandwich from Swiggy at around 7, when I came home from the office. I had ordered from Subway because it was showing delivery in 20 minutes and I was very hungry.
I patiently waited for my food, but even after 20-25 minutes, the food wasn’t delivered. I opened and checked the app, and it still showed 8 minutes. The order was out for delivery. I had no other option than to wait. At around 7:45, the app started showing that the order was delivered. I was about to complain when I received a call from the delivery partner that he was in my building; there was some network issue, and because of that, he had to mark my order as ‘delivered’. He requested me not to raise a complaint, and I was too naive to fall for it. I waited for 5-10 more minutes, but no one came. I called the number again. He did not answer my call and blocked my number. Then I filed a complaint that I had not received the order, but customer service just kept delaying the process. They took no action towards the delivery person; they just offered me a coupon for 200 rupees (my order was prepaid, and I had paid around 375 rupees).

After this incident, I never prepaid for any orders; I always selected cash on delivery only. I have zero trust in Swiggy now.
