Went to psychiatrist. Just nervous about side effects if any?
Hi guys so finally went to psychiatrist he prescribed me some medications. I am just worried about its side effects. And i have habit of overthinking in worst case scenario. Not sure what to do.
Avoid psychiatrists. The drugs they prescribe is more dangerous than if you don't go to them. These drugs along with painkillers caused the drug epidemic in the US. Go for yoga and meditation classes conducted by traditional teachers (Bihar school, kym, Iyengar yoga schools and such). AOL is also ok.
I'd recommend ignoring the first part of the above comment.
Yoga, meditation are like supplements for your health and can help you feel better, alleviate symptoms (and maybe even cure in the long run) but they are not replacement to medicines or medical help.
Don't stop the meds. In case of side effects or if you feel your work is getting hampered, consult with your doctor first. Take a second opinion from a different psychiatrist if you feel the meds are not working instead of just stopping them.
What’re you going through I don’t know but gym and exercising are the best anti-depressants. Lift weights and sleep, you’ll forget all the issues going in.
Do some MMA and punch the bag thinking it’s the problem that you have. All the anger is put in the bag itself and you have a good day and a good life if you do these regularly

To avoid overthinking it means you need to engage the distracted mind in something may be start it by writing; i am sure this will help you out; habit is defined as repetitive emotion at particular time so just change the emotion. Lmk if it works
Seriously depending on medications prescribed. The meds for issues related to brain have varied side effects from dry mouth to weight gain to sleep pattern changes. You’ll have to be vigilant about managing your meds.
Depends on the medicine and the dosage. Webmd is good if you want to know general side effects. It won’t be much.

You're having Esta or Paxotine? Esta is non habit forming
Here are a few things you should keep in mind:
1. The doctor will put you on meds for at least a few months. These meds take time to work and it is important to stick with them.
2. Different meds work for different people.
3. If you observe some side effects, tell your doctor, they will change your meds.
4. This is the most important one. DO NOT stop taking the meds without consulting your doctor. Stopping meds is a gradual process where they reduce the dose slowly over a few months.
Along with all this, having an active lifestyle and a routine will help. Make sure you have a daily routine, good sleep schedule and eat good food. All this will complement the meds and aid your recovery.
Hope you feel better soon. Good luck!

I went to a psychiatrist. I was having what seemed like frequent panic attacks. He gave me medicine. So when I went to him I needed medicines badly. At that point of time I dont think meditation or yoga would have helped me. So I took those medicines. Along with therapy. I would highly recommend therapy. And about side affects, they appear when you are using them for like 5-7 years or maybe a decade in some cases. In your case personally i would recommend therapy. Try to avoid medicines. But again I dont know your full case so its totally up to you. However I hope you go to a therapist. You will surely feel better.
