the correction was overdue. I see prices of everything going up in my  neighborhood. But the government claims inflation is coming down.  Many people i know has either lost his job or got very poor bonus. China is imploding. Japan is doomed. EU/US are staring at stagflation. Is india that  awesome that  it warrant such high valuation? I assume the market was held up due to Gujarat phase of election. That complete, the market started to correct. 

The share prices do not reflect the reality. It should come down at least another 20%.

High inflation tends to reflect as a plus for stock market because on a high level, nifty 50 % return = GDP growth rate % + inflation %. So, the point about inflation doesn't make sense. Rest of the points are fair.

Don't waste time thinking about why it is falling. It's the nature of the stock market to rise some and fall some (reason changes every time). If you are doing SIP, continue. If you have lump sum money, invest part of it as soon as it falls 5-10% from the top. And remaining if it falls further. Keep it simple 😀😀. I do SIP so I don't have anything to invest in a lump sum.

Everything's going to shit recently. I can't help but wonder where are we heading. We celebrate reaching the other side of the moon but can't have the basics right. There's airports collapsing, bridges falling, ministers houses flooding in the capital of the nation, while the people are stuck blaming, infighting and staying divided. 

Our air is unbreathable, roads unusable, water not drinkable, food is no better than poison. Our education system doesn't seem to get better. Hoards of people for government jobs whose papers keep getting leaked. 

The amount of private jobs you could count on your fingers and the applicants are hundreds for a single role. 

I write this rant feeling defeated in my home, where I've been born, lived and seen everyone I love live. 

I fear for myself but more than that my family, my parents for whom I dream of giving the world to. 

At this point, I understand why people leave this country in a heartbeat.

This is anecdotal but just wanted to highlight my observation that the recruitment is getting harder in general and multiple companies fighting for same good candidates. It's really nice to see green shoots considering how hard 2023 has been. The companies still laying off in 2024 are either doing recruitment in India or small startups that are anyway not going to last this entire year. Majority of the recruitment is being driven by captive centers being setup by startups from Europe and US. 

Good luck folks. Make sure you ask for higher numbers.

A friend is pretty upset about where they are working. They feel a bit cheated with the #edtech company not growing as the founders kept promising them. The company has reversed its initial growth and is now not sure of the next steps. 

They were largely into giving charters instead of degrees and their pandemic success has disappeared. 

They are wondering if they should cut loss and jump ship before the company shuts. Or should they sink with the team?

The founders are pretty cool guys outside. With a good reputation. But they haven't been able to scale the company and promises have dried up. 

I wish I could reveal the name - but I don't want to affect anyone or point at anyone else. But my friend is really traumatised and has lost interest in work and is given new roles and responsibilities every week at '_t_a'. And everyone else is demotivated and upset with how the founders seem to cut their losses by doing secondaries but they can't do a thing! Even the investors don't seem to care much. 

My friend and a few others plan to take this up with the founders on Wednesday. And there is an internal revolt going on.

Edtech Dillema at '_t_a' - what should my friend do?

Both indexes began diverging sometime close to when Fed started to aggressively hike rates. It appears that the post-COVID rally was more favourable to the S&P but NIFTY is currently outperforming on absolute returns.

My idea is fundamentally simple. Financial prudence during the raging recovery paid off for us, the economy appears resilient and poised to do well in the near to mid-term. It also reflects that markets are pricing recessionary risk very differently to both markets.

Any ideas by others?

A lot of our lack of optimism comes from the above. 1/4th the funding in 2023 vs 2021!

We really have seen such a big nosedive from 2021 to 2023. Just the sheer numbers here!

- Central Banks have almost achieved their objective of controlling inflation through tightened monetary policy. Though the CPI is inching lower,  asset inflation is resurfacing through stock prices and real estate. 
- Many listed companies that came out with the quarterly numbers are nothing good to talk about. Growth and profits are subdued and for small and mid caps the numbers are decimated but the stocks are still trading at a historical premium. 
- Analysts will once again start downgrading the earnings forecast and that will start the downward momentum. Once again people will undergo the "Flight to Quality" effect. 
- No of Bankruptcies is steadily increasing 
- No of Job openings are trending lower
- Most of the US listed firms that have borrowed at a lower interest rate in 2021 are coming up for renewals this year. By the time they refinance, they will be doing it at a higher interest rate which will impact their PAT as a result their EPS estimates will take a biting. 
- Gold looks attractive from a market cycle standpoint. 

My Recommendation: 
- Have an emergency fund for at least 6 to 9 months to cover your expenses. 
- Exit overvalued small and microcaps stocks. Move to a reasonably valued large cap.
- Have health insurance for you and your dependents. 
- Move out of small cap mutual funds and have some allocation to debt funds.

Recently being seen a bunch of people here taking a dig on people with high salaries. This is so counter productive. Rather than trying to learn from people who’ve been able to get a head start and getting it for yourself why are you resorting to hating on them? 

This is what is the difference between India and the west. The west is so fu##in capitalistic that people just understand and respect those that have money and everyone else is working hard to make it too. 

Don’t hate the race. Don’t hate the winners. We can all win. Help each other. 

My salary is also high so whatever…
