I always had hard time meeting new people. I don't like the idea of dating apps to meet people, we should have an app/platform for offline events, you can see the profile of people who are attending, price should not be exorbitantly high.

Luma is trying to create something but most of the events are private.

What is one project/problem that you always wanted to solve but never got chance to work on it?

I believe most of the questions available on the internet are quite redundant to test someone's system design knowledge.

I'm not looking for typical questions like building YouTube/Instagram/Whatsapp, which are only for beginners.

I'm looking for questions which you are able to answer on the basis of your personal experience, in depth questions. 

e.g how did you use indexing/sharding/query optimisation/rate limiting etc in your project?  what would you do in a so&so situation?

the questions which show me whether a person has actually worked on the systems instead of just having the theoretical knowledge.

I know it depends on how the interviewer asks the question, because it's supposed to be vague but I'm still looking for very specific questions.

So please tell me, what are such questions which you like to ask someone or the questions which you were asked in an interview ?

or just share your interesting system design interview experience, would be helpful to others.

Practical System Design Interview questions to test genuine knowledge

Do you know the reason for getting up everyday and working? Have you found why you wanna do what you wanna do?

Examples from TV series -
Naruto wanted to be Hokage because he wanted everyone to see him, acknowledge that he exists and he is someone important.

Mike Ross in Suits wanted to be lawyer to help people because of what happened with his parents

Patrick Jane in Mentalist was a CBI consultant because he wanted to find killer of his wife and Daughter

Sheldon cooper pursued physics bcoz it made sense to him and he wanted to win a Nobel

I can only quote such examples as I haven't found real life people who have any reasons for why they do what they do apart from the reason of making money.
Even here, I find most posts about making money/salary discussions. I have rarely found any post which talks about something meaningful other than money.

Disclaimer- I am not saying money isn't a good enough reason. I am trying to figure out if someone has reasons other than money.

When I am talking to people (irrespective of gender), my instant communication continuer to share an example of same thing they talked about.

Example 
'I went to Mumbai'
'Oh I remember when I went to Mumbai'

'I love mountains'
'Oh I hate mountains, I like beaches better' (nobody even asked for my opinion)

If not this then - Hmmm, yea, okay, Cool, Great, That's nice, sweet, 😊, 🙌, ✌️
And the conversation dies.

There should a third way. What's that?

How do you hold a conversation (text or in person)?

I have a job interview coming up and want to get everything right this time. Would appreciate any suggestions.  I usually start by telling where I've done my college from and then talk about the work I've done at my current firm. Anything more that I should add?

So i am software engineer working remotely and situated at my hometown (Tier 2) , after signing off day I go to a public park daily except Sunday’s for run there i found a girl who comes to the same park with her dog for max 10 min and then leave i am highly confident she is giving the positive sign that she is interested but i am damn sure she will not initiate . I go there  we have long eye contact none of us utter a word then she leaves . I feel sad daily that i have missed that chance to speak i need help how should i approach her mind you there are other people too have walk in the park

I really want to speak to her and i am that introverted man when it comes girl

I see people here showing of their networth more than often. The stocks they have, the salary they draw and with their very little experience and young age. 

Please let’s not make it another bragging platform.

Let’s get real. I’m putting out my story.

I got laid off, got a job after 2 months. Quit the job within a month as it needed me to relocate immediately (which was earlier supposed to happen after 3 months) plus I figured they had a very toxic culture (which I could figure before joining, but beggars can’t be choosers) 

I have 2 months of runway with my savings
I’m married. Wife is also on a break currently.

Current networth?
(-)16 lacs.
Have loans worth 25 lacs which will be over in next 5 years.

I have been a generalist all my life, and I figured post all this layoffs that no matter what you do, how much you put in, at the end you’ll just be a Number for the company and at times of difficulty they’ll lay you off. 

What am I thinking next?

To find freelancing and consulting services along with a job which will just be required to pay my fixed monthly expenses and have my peace of mind and on the side build things what I really love and enjoy.

Will experiment the one or two ideas I have, if there are good responses and feedback and I sense a demand, will scale it up else move on to the next one.

I don’t want to retire ever, I want to keep working till my last breath, but a work I love doing, a work that will always let me have my peace of mind. I don’t want to make a billion dollar company, but something that gives meaning to things I am passionate about and people can connect themselves with.

P.s: I’m Not an Engineer 🙂

Would you choose to work at the top companies for the rest of your life in the same domain and continue to climb up the ranks? Maybe, you switch every 3-4 years to other top companies and have the perfect resume.

It looks something like: 
Google ➡️ Meta ➡️ Amazon ➡️ Microsoft ➡️ Uber ➡️ Netflix etc.

Or,

Do you go for the unconventional path which shows a life well lived and an interesting story?

Maybe, you worked for a few years as an SDE and then  joined a smaller company as an MLE. 

Then, maybe a few years down the line you decided to start your own company in the AI/ML space. You fail but it’s okay.

You decide to use this experience to become a consultant at a BigCo. to gather capital. Then, you exit and go run an entire vertical at a Series B+ Tech Company.

It may look something like this, but can have any variation: 
Niche#1(big co.) ➡️ Niche#1(small co.) ➡️ Experimental Bet(running a co.) ➡️ Leverage Experimental bet(if fails) ➡️ Senior Leadership

Here’s my question to you, the reader:

Id love to see Grapevine create a catalogue of Grapevine approved verified anonymous accounts of detailed employee accounts of how good or terrible a company is. Think The Ken but filled with employee reports. But the style of writing leaning on the casual office gossip side. And the content saved in an archive and searchable. The biggest problem of course would be getting people to verify their identity to a Grapevine mod or writer may be tough.
Me personally, I’d love to talk to some writer about my experience at my previous businesses. So many scoops and insane stories!

(I dislike Glassdoor for the HRs infiltrating and BSing everyone)
