I work for a big corp. ~6YOE. 48L.

The work culture here seems a bit off. Constant pressure to compete and snatch the work and prove oneself. Chaos is being glorified. Onsite team is unresponsive and hiding information. Asking for a KT is being judged upon(expectation is apparently to read through the code). Everyone is trying to earn brownie points by impressing the manage because no one seems to know what to work upon. Technical ability is being looked down upon in the name of domain knowledge.

I switched recently to upskill and grow, but seems like it was a wrong choice.

I’m looking for early stage startups to switch to. I know the current market situation is bad, but I’d take the risk as long as I’m getting to expose myself to good problem statements and less bullshit.

What made it worst? The pay, the culture, or your manager?

What's the worst company you have worked for?

ICICI Bank, they had a strict sign in timing policy where if you are late to corporate office, half day salary would be cut, It would be reversed only when manager approves. The sign out time used to be 5.15pm, but you would be made to sit till 8 pm by most of the managers even if your job is done for the day. A sign out at 6 pm used to be called as half day by most of the managers. 
 I heard now they donot have this dictatorial policy.

Data Analyst

I am a backend engineer, working in a tech powered fashion company. 

Total experience: 3.5 yrs
Current CTC : 24 lac fixed, 12 lacs ESOP in 4 years

I joined as a software engineer, this April I will complete 2 years in current company, but Manager saying promotion might not be possible due to current situation and less promo slots available. 

I have been quite a good performer last 2 years , building a crucial project from scratch and handling everything alone due to short staffing. There is sole dependency on me for that project and company has ambitious golas with that project this year. Recently got SPOT award from skip manager as well.

Only talked to manager last week , although we had made a promotion action plan few months back for my promotion this cycle and I meticulously followed every points in that plan , manager doesn't seem to be fighting much for my promotion, although he always says in my face that I am his star performer.


I am really upset with this. What should I do ?? 

Talk to skip manager? Consider switching company ? 

Please suggest me. Thanks. 

P.S : work culture and wlb is good here. Also as I have the complete ownership of the project, I learn as well.

I try to stay optimistic and ask folks at Navi as to what is the ground reality. Can you share instances of what is the work culture or just give your reviews?

I am not able to decide which one to choose. The Groww internship is guaranteed that if I perform well I will get PPO(15 LPA) and swiggy one is dicy if even it does have PPO. Since only one more month is left for my graduation, taking any of these internships will require me to leave the FTE offer. Any suggestions fellow developers??

Off late, the frontend engineering at Razorpay has become more of a data entry job. The design system (god knows how many years it will take to be completely ready) is restricting both the devs and the designers a LOT. Designers are literally fed up with being dictated to design things only in a particular way (limiting even animations, font-size, choice of italics v/s bold). There was even a long 2 month discussion to get font size for a component to support higher value, if you honestly want to know. 

The so called core team has been developing blade since God knows when. Agree that they've done a great work with tokens and other stuff, but it seems that by the time it's ready, it'll already be outdated design wise (suxs).

So, any other devs, all they have to do is follows.

1. Open Figma
2. See if the component in Figma is supported by Blade.
3. If yes, then see if our designer has by mistake used any font-size, color, margin or spacing not supported by Blade.
4. If yes, start a thread between everyone and give them a month to come to a resolution (Blade team always retaliates like it's a personal attack)
5. Eventually end up using your own component to save time and move fast.
6. Explain to your manager's manager's manager why you can't use Blade. (they've funded it for 2 years and no dev likes it, so they push it from top)

I work in a US based fintech named as One.App I've joined them in January this year only. 
The thing is my manager is kind of toxic. What makes him toxic is he doesn't talk to me much whenever I go to him with problems instead of trying to help me. He says something like that's so poor documentation, I am horrified by looking at it. He doesn't even help me in making it better. Tries to just divert me to other people for help.

I have in total 5 years of experience.

The other company I am getting offers from is HackerRank. It offers me 12 Lacs less than the One.App but I've heard good things about them. So what do you guys think I should do?

Should I leave my company and join the company with a lower package?

I gave a couple of round interviews at Bajaj finserv for product role . Can someone please let me know about the culture of the company and other aspects .

I work as a Product manager at a series A well funded startup.
This company is run by a solo founder/CEO.

This is a wannabe tech and product startup that does not care about their product at all. The internal review meetings get 5 minutes on product and 55 minutes on business and operations on a good day!

All they care about is how to run operations and tech just works on automation instead of building the product for the end user. Every OKR cycle runs for two months where OKRs are set for product but we end up building internal tools because things get "re-prioritised" and operations "can not miss targets".

The worst part is that the strategy changes every 2 months and every week, the CEO keeps adding new "wants". Almost like a baby seeing shiny new toys.
At this stage, the product has become a mess with no identity at all!

This baby always says "But is that even do-able" acts critical and tries to seem smart in front of their employees while lying to the investors and board every other week that we are a tech and product company.

I don't know if this happens at other startups in India. 

Would love to hear what y'all have experienced.

You sound like a tech bro, who thinks that only tech runs the world. Huge companies like Tata, reliance etc are built on solid operations and business insights.  
  
 Tech is enabler, if the founder is smart with business and operations, most likely he will make a good business, and unless you start valuing things beyond tech also, you will keep hopping jobs and cribbing why people don’t value you.

I just joined a company and it's been only 2 weeks. When I accepted the offer there was another interview in pipeline and some delay was going. The result came and now I am confused what to do. 

Startup (current company) TC : 27+2 (base+pf)

New Offer from a big firm: 31.5+3.15+1.51+45kUSD(Base+target bonus+pf+stocks 4yrs) = 43.87LPA Annual CTC

It's not easy as it seems. The startup (curr company) has great culture and tech stack. The product is exciting. It is part of a larger parent company. 

Whereas the big firm (new offer) works on a Monolith and work mostly uses Java. Codebase is 20yrs old according to Hiring manager. And one more thing - I hate Java. Why the difference has to be so big in TC 😭 I don't like to be confused. Have you ever been in such a situation? I want to relate my situation.
