When is the best time to inform HR about another job offer to negotiate for higher pay?
Hello everyone! I'm an intern at a startup. I have received a full-time offer from another company. I want to negotiate with my current company as I anticipate their offer might be lower. My HR has asked me multiple times if I have an offer from any other company. Should I inform her now or wait until my current company presents an offer and then reveal that I have another offer?
Let them present their offer first and then tell them that you have an offer of higher amount. If you tell now, they may not even roll out that offer letter. That said, be prepared that they may not match the offer, so you may have to join that new company.
Think of it, why is HR asking you whether or not you have any other offer? If you look at it, it is none of their business, their business is to decide whether or not you are worthy enough to be issued an offer letter. But no, they are playing tricks, so well, you too play the game by the same rules. If you don’t tell about offer, you have better chances of salvaging the situation, if you do tell, there is much higher chances that it will backfire.
Communicate early if you offer in writing. Never disclose a company name with the current company. Never ever.
What happens if we disclose the company name to anyone in the current organization??
If HR will notice that the guy is in two minds, forget that there will be efforts to get him an offer letter.
