Working on a company’s design system
I’m a frontend developer, got an opportunity from another org, to work on their design system. Is that a good opportunity??
As someone who's worked on design systems before, it was surely a good learning if you want to understand UX deeply. Additionally, learning how to write more simplistic and self sustainable components helps you understand coding from a different standpoint. Makes you focus on security and accessibility as well for the platform you are building on.
Although eventually for me, not being able to solve for business scenarios and fix real business problems made the Design System job very boring in a year. It did improve my coding skills but there weren't any worthy problems to fix.
This would have been a great job 10 years ago when Design Systems were booming in software. Now Figma, and pre defined frameworks and methods in the industry make it easy.
Yeah it could be good as a frontend dev! There is much to say when you go for interviews to the next company.
Just don't stick around long if the work gets stale for you like I pointed out.
