switching to UX/Product Design

hello, I am in my senior year and will be joining as software engineer at a big automobile company. However, product design has really piqued my interest in the last few weeks. I find it more interesting and comes more "naturally" to me. For eg, I've built several apps and released them on the Play Store and found UX more enjoyable than the technical decisions I make. Would you say UX is really much more competitive even for senior positions? (because swe is also too competitive in junior positions). I am a bit confused about my long term career (whether should I stick to swe or transition to product design role). This dilemma is very confusing and your inputs would be valuable :D

I currently want to transition from middleware System Engineer to UX Engineer . I have done some front-end development in past . Will brush up the basics and probably learn some framework. I wanted to know what are the things I should learn and master if I want to become a UX Engineer (design + some development) . A roadmap would be really beneficial in keeping track of things . If there is anyone here who transitioned to UX from development side , what is the roadmap you followed? Would love to know insights from grapevine design community ! Thank You

Hey folks, I'm a 2 years experienced front end developer looking to switch career to ux design learning figma and ux concepts currently. I've been designing static pages. Can you guys give your honest opinion and advice on how i can switch my career to ux?

I completed my bachelor's in Psychology and have good practical application of psychological skills. I was always intrested in UI/UX since middle-high school but didn't know about its existence. Now since its mainstream I was thinking of getting into it, my aim is to make designs that are good, follow some reliable rules yet have creative applications applied to make it unique and use cognitive psychology to make it a pleasurable and human centric experience. When it comes to payments, career growth and placements what is your experience ? Is it good and justified, is the growth scope good ?

I am currently working as an Industrial Designer at a Startup ( 14 LPA ). I have a Master’s Degree in Design from Indian Institute of Science. I am not finding jobs and am very confused about wether to continue as an Industrial Designer since I see very less demand as of now. On the other hand UX design is very lucrative in terms of perks and package. Your thoughts would be really helpful.

Has anyone here, moved away from Software Development to something else. Maybe in a completely different direction, like became a graphics designer, or Game developer etc. or in a similar direction, like went towards Product Management or something similar. If yes, then I want to know your experience with the switch, and the steps you took to make it happen. I got into Software engineering 2-3 years ago (attracted by the salaries) but now I just don’t feel like doing it anymore at all. I asked a friend who’s a PM, and his take on this was, if i wanted to keep earning how much I currently do (20-30 LPA), and want to go even further than that, then SDE is the only option, PMs do not get paid that much amount, when compared to SDEs in the longer run. What’s your take on this?

I want to move out of architecture - the work is stressful, long hours, not enough pay and the only ways to earn more and get growth is to go into construction and real estate which I'm not fond of. Is moving into design field in other sectors good? in terms of work life, pay and job market?

Hi, I am a motion designer with 2+ years of experience working at a Fintech company. Good with User Research, UI, Interaction and, Motion as added advantage! I am an engineer by education ;) Want to switch to Product design. Any openings ?
