What do you talk about during your 1:1 with your manager ?

I'll go first. It is mostly operational and never strategic. Updates, status, retention etc. What about you?

Hello Everyone, I’m a software engineer with around 1.5 yoe not sure about what should I talk in my 1:1 meetings with my manager apart from feedback. It would be very helpful if you can provide some topics or ways to improve the 1:1 meetings with managers. Like how to talk about money, hike, promotions without sounding greedy or awkward.

I have read and heard it several times, that in one on one’s with your manager discuss your growth with him, but I never understood it, how to do it in every 1:1 or more than once or twice? Growth is something very simple to me Software Engineer to Senior to Principal to Staff etc And you keep working at next level and you get promoted, but what discuss about it in every 1:1 ?

I just started my career, and this is my first job as a Front-end developer. Everytime my manager and I have a 1:1, I feel like we talk about random stuff like I started exercising, went on a trip etc. I don't know what people usually do in monthly 1:1's . what should I aim for?

It's been almost two years since I have been working for a startup and I report to a founder. The work has been quite remote and the teams collaborate remotely. How often should I have one to one sessions with my manager? The last time we had a one to one was during my appraisal which happened a year ago post which we never met 1:1. However, we meet once a week on a group staff meetings which is driven on a specific business agenda? Is this something healthy?

Hey Grapeviners, I need your wisdom! I'm currently in an engineering team at my company, but I feel like a fish out of water (no learning at all). I’m constantly scratching my head trying to understand tasks and communications. It’s like everyone’s speaking in code – literally and figuratively! My real passion? Data analytics. I dream of diving into data pools, not wrestling with the programming geeks. I've told my manager about my analytics ambitions, but I'm still stuck in my current role, learning things I know I won't use as an analyst. It doesn't even interest me to do a simple google search about the stuff they are using. I want to talk to my manager about: My struggles with the current role. My career aspirations and where i want to go Moving to a data-focused team. Still helping out with my current duties during the transition. Has anyone been in a similar boat?
