My younger bro is currently in his 3rd yr at NSUT Delhi. He has been learning front end for a good while. And is now also learning AI/ML.
All his prep went into vain due to poor internship placements.
He is now very underconfident about interning off campus and wants to directly sit for main placements.
My understanding is that it’s critical to have a good brand internship and a PPO from them preferably. This worked for me as a non-techie so could be a bias.
But if you or anyone you know has been through this journey, kindly suggest what should be the ideal way forward?
Not from Nsut but I too did not have an internship before main placements. While I agree it's a good to have especially since getting ppo would make life much easier, it's not critical. Maybe chances are affected by 5-10% not more than that. If you are well prepared and are confident about your resume with good projects, company do not care that much
Especially given the circumstances I am sure majority would be finding it difficult to get an internship. So even that way it's not a problem since almost everyone will be without internships
My background before giving any advice: graduated from NSUT Dwarka in 2023 with Computer Engineering.
I also didn't got any internship during my 3rd year but ended up getting placed(although the offer got revoked 😕). Interesting thing is my entire group didn't got internship and they are placed in Ansys Navi Paytm Oracle. If he is from COE/IT branch with gpa close to 9 (because the strength of students has increased significantly in NSUT in past two years) and solid DSA good Computer Science fundamentals and decent development knowledge he will get placed. If he is not from COE IT then it's going to be little challenging but not impossible.

Actually he is also worried about managing time for 6-8 weeks summer internship that NSUT asks for, along with maintaining CGPA, learning DSA and Development .
Can you share more about, how exactly did you sort out the internship without actually doing an internship ?
Why this pressure build up, chill out. It will pan out for good and will get placed without the internship as long as the basics are right. Tell him to keep working and building his portfolio and write tech blogs. Or contribute to OSS. These things help more than internship imo.
