Asking PAN and birthdate before screening

Hey Folks, wanted to understand your opinion here:

In a interview process, I have experienced a few companies are asking for PAN details and birthdate at the very first encounter (be it via call or email).

I don’t mind sharing it for background verification once I clear all rounds. But this information being sensitive i dont know if it’s ethical. I also understand companies do have their check to be done.

These detail should not be asked. I get so frustrated so see some chindi chor companies asking these info at Interview scheduling stage itself.
