Do frontend engineers have any future?
I can see folks looking down on Frontend Engineering, why is it so? Is there a pay gap between frontend and backend.
You can surviive easily till 12-13 years growing from jr soft engg to soft engg, sse, associate tech lead , tech lead .
Post that you learn manament and move to frontend engg manager role, or IC role.
Once you reach 8+years, you need to diversify your skills with infra side as well as cloud as a frontend developer like aws, azure, in infra- ci/cd, kubernetics, architecture, system design, etc
Side by side you ll have to up your game in looking at the bigger picture apart from fulfilling your role as sse
They get into it much more before we do.
Plus they have a lot of more things to do as compared to FE guys.
Give some css task to a backend dev and watch em hilariously fail. Anyway, every role has a future granted u r in right company… FE has a low barrier entry, bootcamps and old folks stereotyping which feels like reduced value. But time is different now so let’s see how things change
I don’t think there is any pay gap till mid-senior level roles. But after 6-8 years the choices and opportunities do get limited to an extent for a FE.
