Do I really need to give the exact one ?

I resigned from my previous job few months ago and now I have received an offer from a different company. I have been able to clear all the rounds and now the final round - background verification check is pending. I have been asked to give the references of my previous managers whom I was reporting to ( need to give 2 names). Now the issue is that I didn't leave on good terms in my previous company. I asked for an internal switch and they instead created a toxic environment and forced me indirectly to resign - which also led to a few situations where we had an argument. In conclusion, I didn't leave on good terms. Now how do I provide my reporting managers reference. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello Grapeviners. So I was put into Focus (coaching plan, pre-PIP) at Amazon. After the focus period ended I was given two options Leave with severance Go into PIP I chose to leave. So I am currently serving notice period. My manager is trying to get some unfinished work done from me. I don't want to finish it. There are multiple reasons for it. Finishing this task will benefit him more than me.I am already stressed about looking for my next job Here's the question: My manager says that I can provide his reference to my next recruiter/hiring manager and he will provide good feedback about me. (He said this so that I feel indebted to him and finish whatever task that he assigns me) Do hiring managers/recruiters reach out to your previous manager? Can they reach out to your previous team members instead? My teammates have seen me working on the frontlines and know everything about me from my work ethic to my abilities. They can vouch for me way better than my manaher ever could. My manager always underestimated me severely. He put me into focus all because of his blindedness (this came from my teammate not me) I dont care about burning bridges with my manager because he was toxic af. Just wanted to know if recruiters will reach out to him or not? And can I instead provide a reference to my teammates

My teammate is very annoying😡 Whenever he is stuck with a problem, he just spends a very little time on it, and if he is not able to find a solution he gets me on the call and tries to get it solved through me and I kind of baby spoon him for the solution. This is a repeated practice and I am sick of it. Sometimes I thought to confront him but then I kind of push myself back thinking how he might feel about it. Please give me genuine suggestions on what should I do? Should I discuss this with my manager/lead? Or something else PS: He is elder than me but we are on same designation.

I'm working as an APM at a startup for about a year now. I work with another guy who happens to be my senior, PM and both of us report to the director. Of late, my senior, i.e., the PM has been undermining my work when the two of us are working together, subtly taunting me that what I've done is pretty easy and non impactful business wise. He also disregards the decisions made by me, modifies the PRDs discovered and written by me and mails them as his own. Eventually, he ends up adding me to the walkthrough calls because I had discovered the features but then concludes everything such that he had owned everything end to end. Recently, both of us were given a documentation to be done by our manager, i.e., the director. I had completed almost 70% of that document, but in our call with the director he presented it saying that he had written that document and I had made a few changes to it. This undermines my work and visibility of my capabilities. I don't know how to tackle this situation, my manager is usually busy and leaves it upto this PM to allocate work, which he unfairly uses. How do I talk to my manager about this. I'm fairly new to corporate, just graduated last year and don't know how to handle all this. But this thing has been bothering me lately, really looking forward to any advise my fellow grapeviners may have.

Hi folks, I'm looking forward to an engg role where the team is distributed in 2 to 3 countries. Both my Reporting Manager and Sr. EM sit in the US and are of Chinese origin. Rest 3 to 4 Devs are in Bangalore and rest in other South East Asian country. Work and tech wise it's pretty good. Interesting product with great tech to work with. WLB is good. WFO is 3 days a week. Comp is also good. I'm supposed to have standup/product meetings starting mostly from 9 or 10 am for timezone overlap with manager 1:1 scheduled once every week and wrap up the day by 5 or 6 pm. Should I accept the role or reject it?

For background verification, is it okay to provide a senior colleague's contact, who is also in the same team, rather than immeadiate reporting manager? They have asked for manager reference. Do BGV comapnies verify managers as well?

I cannot give the contact details of my manager as she can't know I'm applying to different places and secondly I think she already thinks I'm about to quit. What to do in such a situation? For context: an application is asking for the name, designation, email and phone number of the current manager.

There's this coworker who comes off as extremely aggressive during discussions and individual interactions. This is causing a shift in entire team's environment in the wrong direction. Personally this is causing me to avoid getting into discussions with them. I'm looking for ways to deal with this person and keep the work environment peaceful. Here are some of the observations about their behaviour: 1. Highly opinionated and treat others who have a different opinion as hostile. 2. When someone else is trying to explain something which needs to be explained serially A -> B -> C, and they are interested in C, they get restless and start badgerring with questions about C while the other person is still on A. 3. In discussions, which require a deep understanding of the product, which they do not have yet, instead of admitting that they have doubts and asking questions, they try to act as if they understood it when clearly they didn't because their senior was present. For instance, they paid attention in the beginning and then got busy on their phone during the meeting and when asked if they understood, they just told the agenda of the meeting instead of what was discussed. 4. This is what tipped me off the edge. During a meeting which didn't involve their senior, they got easily frustrated when others were giving an opinion different from theirs and pointing out the issues with their opinion. After a couple of minutes, it turned into a heated argument and they started raising their voice and started making illogical sarcastic remarks. And after a bit of that they changed their tone into rude frustrated disinterest and rudely remarked "do whatever you want to do". So far we have tried to use humor to deescalate the situation. But this is clearly not gonna work in the long run, and their behaviour is getting worse day by day. I am trying to avoid a confrontation with them because it is not my place and I don't want it to get ugly.

Some context. Worked at an early stage startup around 1.5 years ago. This startup works in the Computer Vision space and does a lot of experiments(no direction at all, will take some project from some fintech company one day, some project from healthcare, and then some project from some random company, basically these go nowhere), I worked with one of the projects that involved document processing and it got some revenue. At my last day, I was made to sign some agreement which included non compete. 1.5 hears later, today, I’ve joined a startup that works in FinTech domain and has been doing pretty good, and they sent a BGV check to my previous employer, and those guys are saying they won’t do BGV and that I’m violating the non compete agreement. They think entire world is their competitor, honestly, they’re nothing and no one even gives a fuck about their existence. What can I do here?
