I have been hearing from multiple friends across organizations in India. Lay offs are not in news but happening silently across boards. Companies are on cost cutting mode. Interesting year ahead

Thank you for sharing this. Was not knowing about silent layoffs happening. But one interesting thing I have observed is that many organizations are now deliberately making the work environment more pressurised and/or toxic to reduce the headcount so that they don't need to layoff people.

Jupiter for sure. 1. Immense work pressure and toxic environment (wasn't like this several months ago) 2. Less than 5% appraisals 3. No talk about retention 4. General lack of care for employees

In teleperformance, the reason they gave is that, we overhired. They are informing us after 4 months. It took me a total of 40 hours from interview to onboarding, including drug test and, a 5 hour meet. And, the next day we have our casual induction.

As screwed as it can possibly be. People are leaving the company in good numbers and that’s what the sentiment is across teams. Only few who are stuck because of market are unwillingly continuing. The upper management has not paid any heed to feedback from lower levels which has led to this situation.

Dhani (IndiaBulls group) have had multiple rounds of layoff starting April 2022 (around 40% of the roughly 9-10K employees) That was the biggest ones and the last one was in April 2024 with around 150 people let go with 15 days notice and no severance package.. Actually they never have one 😂 And they manage to keep off the news like other financial companies (NBFC and Banks included)

Silent layoffs upcoming 😔

I got to know a senior leadership member at a popular startup suggested to deliberately do poor appraisal for an employee so that she resigns herself. Bad times ahead with companies forcing employees to join back offices and planning silent layoffs. PS: By "forcing" I mean not leaving employees with much of an option other than to quit.

The company is notoriously famous for doing silent layoffs in the name of semi-annual performance reviews. Given that by next month their peak season will get over, they have started with the homework of preparing lists for people to do layoffs.
