Can I become a product manager

Can a non-engineer (me) become a product manager?

If yes what are the steps?

Yes, you need to find right place yourself. Not all pms are good with design or numbers or strategy.

You need to be good at one thing and double down on it. Sometimes as a fresher it might not be easy to get into pming. It’s important to start off somewhere, and transition later into prod (if you’re unable to make a cut as a fresher).

Purely speaking from a freshers perspective, one thing I really look out for is outliers in your journey so far. Like extra curricular you did and really aced it or a side project that was really cool. Other thing is your basic grasp of the market (curiosity to explore new products, new business models etc) and the last thing is insights you get from the data. Anyone can do basic pivots and sql query, what’s missing in most cases is the insights.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

If I am a marketer (I have experience in the growth side of the business) then can I turn into a product manager?
