Can I leave a company after just 3 weeks of joining?

Hi all,

As the title suggests, I want to know if there are consequences associated with quitting a company in just 3 weeks.

I've joined an early stage startup as one of the first few hires in the product team. The pay and work is reasonably okay. WLB is also good. But one of the companies I was interviewing during my NP from called me back, conducted one more interview and now I have a better offer in hand. This new company is a fintech giant and objectively it makes no sense for me leave this offer.

I'm stuck in a situation now where I'm getting super anxious to initiate this conversation with my current manager about leaving in just 3 weeks. Can someone help me with this? Please share your experiences if possible.

Thanks a lot.

Yes if your PF no. is not generated. This ensures that it won’t come up on BGV.

I have already communicated my situation to the fintech company, so BGV shouldn't be an issue I guess. They already know that I'll be leaving this org in such short span.

But what about next firm?

You should definitely leave the current company otherwise you will regret and judge every move you make in this company if it does not fall for you.

Doesn’t matter. Its normal. Just set up a 1:1 with your manager/mentor and say this honestly that you have a better offer and hence you wish to resign. Work on early release.

There are no consequences. Leave, with humility. Give them the respect they deserve. But you should take a better offer

You can - not a big deal. Can’t be in a better position.

Just do your due diligence on both the companies before making that decesion. The reasoning should be beyond compensation.

Talk to the guys in the fintech - build a view on how your potential role can be rewarding and then compare it to the existing one.

Yes you can leave in 3 weeks, couple weeks back I left Amazon after 2 weeks of joining. I didn't abscond and I had a clear conversation with my manager. I had a better offer and since I was not working on core stuff then they released me early.

what the hell happened to people's ethics?

leaving a company if you don't have issues with work/WLB is a d*ck move.

Pray it doesn't come back at you.

What ethics? That company won't hesitate to fire them if they don't like their performance during probation. And if anything bad happened financially they won't hesitate to lay them off. Sure, this would come up in background checks - but as long as OP doesn't make a habit of leaving jobs super quickly, a one-time change like this is fine.

Do you think your ESOPs can generate higher wealth compared to the salary at the fintech giant? I know there are many aspects to ESOPs but did you try evaluating it this way? Would staying put in the same start up generate higher wealth?

This startup hasn't offered me any ESOPs. Neither they're planning to.

Don't stay when it's not giving you ESOPs. People will ask about it later during background checks but you can give any reason for it - you can say that your expectations weren't met or also just that you got an offer you couldn't refuse.

It will be unfair to the startup if you leave in 3 weeks. But you know people no longer consider fair-unfair while making such decisions, and the same will be in case of the startup also, so do what your heart says and don’t feel guilty about anything. That is why companies have a probation period - where you can also leave without a long notice, if things don’t seem to be working out. All the best!

Yeah, this startup also has a 3 months probation where my NP is only 10 days. If I stay for more than that, it'll become 2 months making it more difficult to leave.

Ok. Lots of comments. Saying from experience. Just do what’s best for you but don’t abscond and have a clear communication. That’s it. Dick move, loyalty- my ass. These companies lay you off in a blink of an eye so fuck that.

What to do? Pls suggest guys

I recently joined an early age startup but that place was nothing what they told it’d be. So I decided to quit in 2 weeks.

I now have an offer from a listed organisation and I am joining on Thursday. However, I haven’t told them about ...
