Can you consult in another field when you are employed?

Can I work as a consultant in a different domain while I'm with another company?

Will consulting have implications if my employer figures out? Also how can my company figure out that I am consulting? Can they check PAN Card details? I’m guessing this is different from moonlighting since I’m not employed at two places. It’s just that I’m consulting

What's the smart way to go about this? Should I use a different bank account or something?

P.S : The consulting work is in a different domain but mainly just for one company.

Don't involve EPF. They highlighted in case of Wipro. If you can keep it strictly cash (even with TDS), it is legal under tax laws

Yep. No EPF. Money shall be credited to my account with TDS deduction. That is fine?

Should I ensure a separate bank account?

Separate account doesn't change anything. All details get captured by PAN. If you are really worried, use a family member's account to accept

I have been doing this for 3 years now. Money gets credited in my account after the TDS deduction. Just make sure EPFO is not involved. Use a different account if possible.

Mostly fired if they find out.

In this climate unless the consulting upside is significant it’s not worth the risk

OR

Tell your employer you’re doing this and consult stress free. lol this ain’t happening

I didn't know this was an issue. I thought side projects and making money out of it is not my employer's concern at all
