Plz suggest a good Dashcam 😶
Given the recent incident in BLR, I think it has now become necessary to have a dashcam installed in car.
Which dashcam are you guys using?
Have you experienced such incident personally?
I’m planning to get a Dashcam installed. Hyundai service centre recommended to use theirs (brand they were providing) which would cost about 20k for front and rear. I could get 70mai for half of this price. Can I get it done outside and will it impact my car warranty? In this case, should I remove / change anything before going to the service centre?
Buddy you can easily buy ddpai/70mai from nexdigitron. You can power it using your car's 12V outlet. You can get both front and rear dash cam for around 10k. It will not void any warranty. Don't go for 24 hour surveillance, it is a waste of money. This is the only authorised seller in India and they have good service.
I got a 4k mirror dash cam (front and back) from US and installed by paying 500. Warranty will not impact if you plugin to cigarette lighter socket but to detect reverse gear if the wire is spliced then yes!
Install 70mai by yourself or from an outside dealer. Just insist on using a fuse tap instead of splicing wires. Powering the dash cam using the 12v charging port is also an option but there will be a wire hanging in the middle of your dash.
Also you do not have to remove it before going to the service centre. In fact it’s better to leave it on. There has been multiple incident where service centre frauds have been caught on the dash cam. Your warranty is clear as long as you don’t splice any wires and a fuse tap helps in doing that safely.
Anything that splices wires voids warranty. If it doesn't, warranty is not void.
There are 2 ways of installation : 12V and fuse box. If your car is outside of warranty or if you want to mod further, go with fuse box method as it provides more features like parking mode, motion detection etc. However you need to purchase Hardwire kit for it too. They can a rotary level wherein power is cut off if car battery drains below that specified point. If you don't want to do any of the above, go with 12V port approach.
On a side note, Volkswagen and Skoda cars have actively powered 12V ports which don't shut off after switching off the car. So it provides all of the features with none of the hassle.
Coming back, 12V installation is easy but cheap too. I paid 300 to my local car accessories guy to install it. What they'll do is route the wire through roof liner carpet without any removal, then route the wire inside the A pillar which is easily and attached back, then through the glovebox and then through the centre console.
Getting it installed by someone else is the wiser decision. It keeps like wires in a clean fit and finish with no dangling plus you have someone to blame. It's takes like 5-7 mins only. However the more important factor is they know how to install without tripping the dashboard airbags, A pillar airbags and knee airbags (if present)

Any suggestions for good car dashcams?
Just realized how badly you need this device on the road. People just walk into your car from anywhere and try to put the blame on you.
I often see videos on YouTube regarding secondhand luxury cars under 10 lakhs and want to understand what are the hidden costs in the long run anyone bought sych cars hiw your experience with that ?
