Why is this common now? Big hire after mass layoffs

Have been seeing this as of recent, is it change in direction - new leadership to drive that

They would have rolled out the offer atleast a quarter ago. It’s got no correlation with the layoffs

I doubt

I've seen similar things happen elsewhere - they're usually happening in parallel the hire and layoff talks

So you layoff people who cannot be absorbed in any other role, have become redundant or aren’t contributing as much as they are being paid. And hire for roles where you see a gap. Both can definitely happen in parallel

See the linkedin profile of Ashwath. He has 17 years of experience in HUL. How is he expected to run an ecommerce food delivery app's growth. I can't see any relevance here.

They need growth and anyways the previous SVP of revenue and growth had left. Hence hired this costly leader They have built the product out so need less engineers and product managers. Hence let go of all those resources. Not a damage control for sure - as someone rightly said they would have hired him a while back. Layoffs were also well planned so they don’t need a knee jerk damage control reaction

What would be his salary? How much previous SVP was paid?
