Building a Product

A brief about me, I work currently as a Director of Product at an Indian unicorn startup About my career: - Did my undergrad from IIT and then masters from an Ivy league school - Have been in product for almost 10 years now - across 2 Indian unicorn startups and a publicly listed company Would love to take questions on what it means to be a PM, growing within the role, building your career, and other things :) Will be back here at 4 pm and start replying Shoot away!

I last did a full fledged PM Role 5 years ago at an early stage startup (B2B SaaS). Post that moved on to building my own startup, spent the early years exclusively hands on the product (0-1) but last 28 months or so since my cofounder joined, I let him manage the product strategy and lifecycle since I had to take the lead on Sales and other aspects My current work with regards to product is more or less product vision and feedback. I feel I need to up my game in building my product skills to a higher level now as the product is getting mature and we are aiming to go global soon. I unfortunately don’t have anyone to mentor at the moment. How should I go about doing this ? Do you think going back to something like a product school for a 15 week Program could help ? The outcome I hope is set myself on the path to become a good Product Strategy leader with reasonable acumen on processes and systems and at the same time translate the learning to help scale the product better. Would be happy to take some ideas or places to look at for one. TIA

I am working on a product(more or less thinking about it). I need to build a team of designer(s), tech folk(s) and a lot more. The issue being ₹₹₹. How do you build teams that work on having an equity share and have an understanding of shared ownership? Where/How do I identify such people?

1. I am having a strong problem statement, which is thoroughly validated, along with a business plan, but I am not working or starting it as I lack confidence because I don't have a team in place. ( I am an IIM graduate and currently a product manager - giving these details just to get a sense of my background, which might help in the type of suggestions from your side). 2. How can I find a co-founder/partner/core team member? Please advise me on where to look for co-founders or people that share a similar mindset. I understand if someone is asking this question, the person isn't ready. But would like to know from founders, what was your motivation ? What pushed you over from a 9-5? Is it just taking a bet on yourself and working towards solving the problem?

I have a product idea that I want to build. It is not something super unique or innovative. A few products are already in the market to solve the use case but it's fairly simple to build and has a decent potential to reach 1 mil ARR. The market is not cluttered and the need is solid. My problem is that I am a career marketer and I don't want to boil the ocean by trying to build the product myself. As a remote employee for the past 3 years I have lost any chance to make a techie friend and whatever old contacts I had are either in better position or have started up already. I have enquired with a few remaining people but it was unsuccessful. My idea is continue with our day job unless we crack at least 3 customers and then go in full time. Is anyone interested? Can someone guide me a better place to find a cofounder?

Hey folks, 2023 graduate here; been working in a startup for around 1.5 years now (including 6 months full time internship) At the moment, I am currently looking for something challenging to solve and be a part of small early stage startup. Is someone here aware of any reputed early stage startup (team with enthusiastic folks and pays well) hiring for SDE full time roles. Thanks!

I have a few ideas for products I want to build in few niche spaces. At the same time I’m always a bit skeptic in discussing this with friends thinking they might ask for too much equity in partnership The downside is that I feel I have to know everything to even get started How did you do it? If you built your startup, at what point in your life while working full time you started working your own thing and how was the journey like? Any tips you’d give a budding entrepreneur

Want to build a AI startup. Finding it impossible as 1) Incumbents with distribution and data will easily build AI to their products 2) I don’t have PhD to build something truly innovative. 3) For consumer space, I don’t think it’s possible to build a new device or a OS etc (Incumbents again!) I seriously wonder how startup founders start something! Do they just BS VCs about nice ideas and raise money? Any tips *from actual founders* will be useful
