Tech: What are expectations from freshers or someone new to tech? How much knowledge and understanding is expected from them. Since tech is vast, and everything might seem new, is it okay to ask silly questions when they are stuck or how can you gauge their capabilities. How can the freshers improve if they are performing below their expectations?
The tech people don’t expect anything from freshers they just want people who are open minded, innovative and always willing to learn without biases.
I work in a startup. I had around 6mo experience before joining here. My TL is very experienced person, almost have 20 YOE. But doesn't like too much questions if I ask him, he wants if I am assigned any task I have to do it with my research. He is a very nice guy so he usually don't react on it much but I feel I am not giving value to the company sometimes because of these.
This is what separates a top performer junior engineer from a average one. Top ones got enough hustle to do their own research and beyond clarifying questions about the requirements don't usually expect much hand holding. Average to below average ones expect constant spoon feeding and the questions are never ending. You can be either based on your skill level but you need to aim to be independent achiever than a guided achiever.
