Hello everyone, I'd like to share my thoughts on my two-year journey at Barclays: Lately I’ve putting in a lot of effort to excel and learn, I've noticed a focus on speed over code quality. This seems to be a consistent attitude across the entire team, including senior leaders. My daily routine includes working on improving code quality myself , while also meeting project deadlines and commitments to the user. However, it's disheartening that my manager doesn't prioritize the process of code improvement. Additionally, best coding practices are not being followed consistently. While I'm committed to performing well in my role, I'm facing a dilemma: Should I put aside my focus on code improvement, even though it's a valuable learning opportunity, and solely align with my manager's directives? Furthermore, I have future aspirations of changing roles. How can I effectively manage my time between preparing for a new position and addressing the current challenges at hand? Should I detach from my current role to concentrate solely on preparation? Or is there a way to find a middle ground and balance both aspects? I am a frontend developer, working in a service based company, still have 1.7 years of experience, I dont know how I fell into this situation, but I got ownership on the frontend of a very large enterprise app in our project and our client is a big banking American company. At first I was content that I was learning angular and making proper decisions to keep things smoothly, now it is eating up my life, and to say this is the First development project and first application I am working in my career. I conveyed that this thing is too much for me in the beginning itself but nobody listening and now all are behind my back on updates and its killing me from inside, what do i do in this situation? I am not able to switch due to long notice period and even the recession is at large. What do i do??

How do you overcome this phase, it’s really depressing sometimes and makes me question will I ever be good in it! Seen that invact guy saying “itni toh tough nahi hai coding” and the current market it gets overwhelming at times. Btw i have two years of experience in service based company. Should i give it another chance or just do mba or masters in data related field? Thanks.

I guess the title clears it. I just sat for 4 hours in front of the screen doing.....nothing. How to work ? I know excercise, write journal etc. all that self help stuff...i do it....still unable to work.

So i was in a mall having lunch with my family. Two girls came and sat on a seat that was right in front me for them i was sitting at a 90 degree angle. While i was having lunch i just caught one the girls looking at me. At first i thought she must be looking at someone behind me or there would be something behind me so i proceeded to not care and carry on with my lunch. After a couple of mins i caught her glance again and she was still looking at the same direction. This time i looked back to see and verify was there actually someone or something behind me. There was nothing but a path where people were walking by i again ignored and carried on with my lunch. A couple of mins later out of sheer curiosity i looked at her direction and this time i again caught her looking at me. Now i was sure that she was looking at me but such a looser that i am had absolutely no guts to give a smile to her gaze at least. I thought my mother who was sitting next to me would ask me questions i got too shy and panicked. I looked at her for couple of seconds then looked the other way as if to say i am not interested in you. I so wished i was alone or with some friend i sure would have approached her. Who knows what it could have lead maybe. What are your opinion folks?? Do let me know.

I see some companies (especially famous ones) are still obsessed over these leetcode type questions in interview rounds even for experienced folks, it’s frustrating.

I was currently in a project with no proper planning and the majority of the code written by team mates are full of bugs. The code is being written for a new application not yet deployed or in the testing stage so no way of knowing the bugs. If I point out the bugs I end up fixing them and it is getting really frustrating. But I can't just look away. I'm 💯 sure this application won't even work. Should I just ignore and continue my work?

I have a colleague who is terribly inefficient at work. She breaks the code all the time and her code throws runtime errors all the time. While I do my due diligence during code reviews, it’s hard for me to justify it all the time. Most of the time, I end up fixing her issues. I do communicate the scope of improvement every time I review her code and add a dozens of basic review comments. While she does fix the issues, she doesn’t follow basic rules. I expect better from her being 11-12 years experienced software engineer. Having said that, she speaks to me nicely and she is always friendly with the team. I have given her feedback multiple times in a friendly manner and she does seem to take it positive. But I don’t see that getting reflected in her work. She keeps repeating the same mistakes. She simply doesn’t think the big picture while coding. Applies point fix and makes it work temporarily, screwing the other features of application. My manager is overly chilled guy. He hardly cares about my code or her code. He doesn’t understand any code and talking to him in a technical language is a waste of time. Even if we encounter a production issue, my manager doesn’t show any signs of concerns. How do I deal with this situation?
