Unpopular opinion but why can't you guys just try and make it on time? The way we currently work is much more lax(9:45 is not early) compared to companies where you were docked pay(half a day's pay because they counted it as half day).
My startup didn't have any restrictions about people coming on time and people started turning up at 12.
And if anyone wants to start the whole 'but my work gets done blah blah blah', i will only believe that if you're working in work that requires no decision making from anyone. The meetings where decisions get made or things have to be reacted to(like a Scrum) need everyone present

Nope, don't agree at all.
1. Just because some companies dock half day pay for being late, it doesn't make it right. These are mostly old archaic companies who thrive on such draconian measures as a proxy for productivity. Stop comparing with such companies and instead look at ones which have been able to implement better ways to measure your productivity.
2. Why is it a problem if someone's turning up at 11 or 12 or 1, as soon as that person gets his job done?
Companies and start ups should have alignment on the goals and KPIs that teams are chasing and then let the individual teams self govern itself. Let your team take a vote on when to have the stand up /scrum calls where all stake holders are needed for discussion on progress/blockers and then stick to that time as a team.
3. Traveling in Bangalore traffic is a pain and you cannot guarantee reaching on time on any given day. Putting in a cap on in time without having a cap on out time is unacceptable and a scummy move.

Considering the traffic that bangalore has, and the fact that forcing an in-time and then not putting a cap on out-time means people are just more stressed about reaching office and work.
Stay away from Playsimple Games, they have a Great place to work sticker at the gate, which they most probably bought as it is exactly the opposite.
This is probably the most toxic environment.
Indian labour laws are so fucking weak cant even sue them.
They are intention kept weak to attract investment. But yeah Europe is great at make companies sweat out for firing. It is difficult to fire and proper chances are given to both sides.
If you can't make it at 9.45, don't know how well will you do at leadership positions. We idolize the Sundars, Elons and Nadellas but can't make it to a meeting so late in the day. Amazing India

Argument is less to do with making it up with time and more to do with this rule i guess

As an aside, the fact that these folks (Playsimple) advertises a Great Place To Work certification shows how much of a home pay to play nonsense certification GPTW has reduced to. Just ignore HRs who try to use this as a differentiator when interviewing.
At least the company is being true to its name - Play simple games (with employees lives) 😅

If 9.30 does not work for most of your team, align with your manager or scrum master for 10 am call.
And hope your team will not be late to 10 am call as well.
It is an Indian mentality to be late to meetings (irrespective of time). We all need to fix this.
If you were the founder of company and people are not turning up on time for scrum meeting, would you be ok with it?
For people saying, it's a toxic environment, it isn't. It's basic behaviour.
As one of them mentioned, hope the fine money is used for month end team activities! This was the case in my company many years back.

Then you need to ask for a company cab. These guys care so much about time, provide cab facility to employees then but they ofc won't.
This is nothing. Our reporting time is 10am. We get marked even for 1 minute late. 2 lates excused per month. From 3rd late onwards - half day cut - either leave or LOP. NO consideration even if we work till 9pm, Weekends or on holidays.
