I’ll share a good thing. I was an employee before Unacademy became a unicorn in 2020. We were struggling with educator experience and I was working on it. GM likes to verify things and received some good feedback from educators. He personally appreciated me for the good work I did.
Man child with unreasonable demands. He is not a leader that inspires innovation or vision, but would just brute force his shitty ideas off Twitter to his team. And you get WhatsApp voice notes from his 5 EAs 24*7. Also meeting invites at 12:59 am for a 1 am call. His 5 EAs would call you 10 times till you wake up.
He sees his employees as slaves and has zero respect for anyone. He attacks and abuses the leadership team every single day, in the name of pushing people to do their best work.
You may end up doing the best work of your life if you can survive in his hell, but you would be constantly stressed and scared of doing anything wrong to piss him off.
He just wants results and the whole leadership team is just focused on giving him fluffs and short terms hacks as “wins” to keep their jobs.
GM is master of failures, he doesn’t plan stuff. He does things first and later thinks
Linkedin type app- fail Youtube replica - Graphy and Graphyx fail Some gaming shit amongst students fail- who the hell on earth prepares for a competitive test using some random game? And worst part- he will not even listen to anyone
He has Godly (negative) attitude Yells at poor office boys, drivers Abuses, slaps Hotel Valet He doesn’t spend, he wastes money on 10-15 iphone chargers at a time, stock of 10 ipad pencils (bhai kyo chahiye itna stock) Makes people wait for 4-5 days for a 2 minute meeting (which is by the way called by him) Abuses employees (including females) Abuses media Witnessed this for multiple folks- annual ctc of 1.5 cr plus- he abuses them in the very first week, will pick on them- send pathetic voice notes with few favourite lines I’m very very disappointed This is shitty work
He is mad Investors should spend a day with him
And what all not- he manages twitter comments, twitter trends (positive in his favour whenever they launch any campaign)
I have worked closely with him, totally agree on each and every point. He has severe ADHD or something, he can’t focus on anything.
Arrogance, stupidity He makes people work on formatting documents- at least 10-12 coloured copies of reports. The guy only works on pdf converted from notion document, waste of time and effort. Meetings with cuss words happen till 2am with zero productivity
Unacademy is classic case of wrong hiring. Previous COO, almost all the BU heads, current marketing head, while best example for worst leadership is GM himself. You will hardly find any leader in office whom you would want to lookup to.
Though in all probability, what you've already heard is true.
Rumours are floating that Unacademy is getting sold by one of its main investors to another Edtech company in their portfolio for just 400 Million dollars, their last round valuation was 3.5 Billion dollars
