Got laid-off from a YC backed startup
Hi folks,
I got laid off today from a YC-backed startup (W23) citing a shift in product focus. Was part of the core team since Oct '21, initially as an intern then later converted to FTE in '22. Got a decent (30%+) increment this year. I was leading the mobile platform but currently, I'm on a notice period. CTO is supportive and helping me via their network.
I'm a recent graduate and this is my first time experiencing a layoff. What should I do now? What things should I keep in mind looking for the next opportunity?

Probably if they'd controlled their cost this wouldn't have been the case. Letting go is the new raising funds in 2023.
Well, they have been very frugal, no office, no fancy parties. Just got another round of funding in Apr. The team is very lean. Not trying to defend but I'm unhappy because this was very sudden and we had conversations like "2 years of stability" when having our 1:1s during appraisals last month.
What looks nice on the outside is probably crap on the inside...
Apply using the YC portal. And ask them for a referral if there's any connection.
I'm not sure whether it's possible or not. Check with your manager whether you can join another organization as soon as you receive an offer (that satisfies you). If that's a possible option, try to pitch yourself as available to hire within a week (readily available to join). This may help unexpectedly
I've already discussed this with them and they have allowed me for an early resignation.
