How much rent as part of salary

How much should I budget for rent, if my salary is 7.25 LPA? Joining a new company so not really sure how much I will get in hand. From my calculations, I will be getting 53-55k(as CTC contains PF contri too), so I'm budgeting 17k as rent (around 33% of 53k). Office is near Bellandur which I have heard has crazy rents, so I don't mind staying a little far to save some money in rent. Should I budget more or is this amount fine? Thanks!

PS-im planning to rent a room with attached bathroom in 1/2/3 bhk house/flat, doesn't really matter if gated society or not.

Instead of staying away to save 3-4k monthly, I'd recommend staying close to minimize your daily commute. The extra energy and time you steal everyday (plus happier mood) can be put to use in upskilling yourself to advance your career, and that higher rent will then pay up for itself within couple of years. And it's not just work, you could exercise, practise a hobby, do networking and what not. . "The best investment you could ever make is investing in yourself"

Actually I have to go to office only twice a week, and i would also have a bike, so that's why I'm thinking of living somewhat far away, like around 30-45 mins of travel. Thanks a lot for the answer!

Driving in traffic is a pain in the ass(literally, and lower back too). I drive 73kms total everyday to and from my college so I'd suggest taking his word.

But why do you say so? Besides the obvious low pay?

Look for independent houses in HSR, Kormangala or Sarjapur road you will find 1 bhk in 15k approx

I have been looking through online real estate apps and the 1 BHK in those areas honestly don't seem good. Also leaning towards 2/3/4 bhks more because living alone is boring and some things like water purifier/fridge/washing machine can be shared with flatmates.

I would say - look for houses in haralur road, hosa road, silver County road. Those you will get in your budget and good societies.

Afaik, 3bhk go for 50-60k ..
