I am a data scientist with 4.5 years of experience and want to transition to software engineering. In DS, we do not code the ways its done in SW roles. Moreover, I am not from CS background. How do I get started on preparing to get into tier 1 companies as SWE / SDE if I want to achieve this in the next 1/1.5 years?

Try for ML engineering. That would be an easy route as your concepts might be clear already
