I'm being paid 50% of colleague for the same role.

I joined a startup in 2021 with a 6 LPA package. After about a year I learnt that one of my colleague, who had joined 3 month before me, and who's from the same batch (2021) as mine is being paid 12 LPA for the same role, even though I'm much better than him in terms of programming knowledge and development skills. Learning that killed all the motivation I had to work and now I feel cheated and deceived. How should I deal with this situation ?

Ideally in a fair world, this shouldn't happen but reality is, it happens very often. In my previous role, I joined as a fresher in a large IT services company. I come from Tier 2 MBA college, so imagine my surprise when I found out my friends from Tier 1 college were being paid 2 times my salary for the same amount of work.

It is the premium companies pay for hiring from Tier 1 MBA colleges. I thought by working hard, developing skillet, I will narrow the gap between me and my Tier 1 friends.

I spoke to my managers about the disparity, they understood my situation, gave me good hikes but it ultimately didn't result into anything significant.

I did get promotion faster than them, better hikes than them but couldn't close the gap simply because of the base effect. Even though my %age hike was higher, but because base salary is low, it didn't result into anything significant.

So my suggestion would be, if your current company doesn't value you enough, time to jump the ship. No other option

Exactly my thoughts. Just waiting to complete 2 years here (6 more months to go) to become eligible for better opportunity. Definitely switching after that. Thanks for your time @LawfulPray11

Same case was with me. Always talk to your manager or boss and discuss your problem. Solution only comes when you talk. And if you just feel it then you will always regret it. Company wants to pay us money but waiting for appraisal or year end. But if we atleast start talking it things change fast and after talking if Company doesn't pay more then it is cheating. Than switch your job. Good luck

Honestly I don't have any interest in working for this organisation after getting such unfair treatment, so definitely getting out of here soon.

Can't disclose that for my own safety since it's a small startup with small teams.

Pay disparity in my startup.

I'm working as a Frontend developer (SDE-1) with 1.5yoe, I joined this startup 4 months back. Earlier I was getting paid 9lpa and later I was offered 12lpa without even asking for my previous compensation. I accepted because my earlier o...

Downball?

I used to work in a early stage startup. Got selected from campus placement and they provided hefty fix pay(16 lpa) + 16 lpa ( spread across 4 years including esop and bonus) (totally fraud to come on day 0 in IIT). They now fired me. I ...
